ROADRUNNERS DOMINATE COLONIALS IN 5-2 WIN

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College field hockey team defeated non-conference rival Western Connecticut State University 5-2 at the Athletic Center Turf Field. The Roadrunners now stand at 3-4 overall while the Colonials fall to 3-5 on the year.
 
The Roadrunners used a balanced offensive attack in the game as they scored three goals in the first half and two in the second half. Following a penalty corner in the first half, Victoria Ewanis ripped a shot into the lower half of the net off a pass from Melissa Choka to score her first goal of her career and put the Roadrunners up 1-0 in the 15th minute (14:11). Six minutes later, Gianna Mouskourie collected the ball off her own rebound and scored an unassisted goal with 19:49 on the clock, her third goal of the season. Choka would score her own goal off a penalty corner from Claudia Wetzel (26:32) extending the Roadrunner lead 3-0. Ramapo held a 15-6 advantage in shots in the first half while goalie Emily Wisneski collected four saves in the half.
 
The Colonials scored to start the second half with a goal from Carly Matasavage, her third of the season unassisted hitting the back of the net in the 44th minute (43:08). Choka would tally her second goal of the game off a pass from Lauren Berry as Choka redirected the ball into the back of the net in the 51st minute (50:48) for a 4-1 lead. Kimberly Brower scored for the Colonials to come within one 4-2 with just under ten minutes to play before Ruba Mashall tallied her first goal of her career off a pass from Mouskiourie with four minutes left in the game taking a 5-2 lead.
 
Ramapo held a 28-15 advantage in shots in the game and a 15-10 lead in penalty corners. Wisneski collected nine saves while the Ewanis posted a defensive save in the second half. Samantha Stolker went into the game with four minutes remaining and did not face a shot from Western Connecticut.
 
Neve Manion posted a game high 13 kills for the Colonials while Greta McConnell recorded one defensive save and Shannon Lynch posted two of her own.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday when they host Keystone College in a non-conference match beginning at 1pm. The Roadrunners defeated the Knights 2-1 in the first game of the 2016 season.
