Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's soccer team outlasted the Red Hawks of Montclair State, 2-1 today as sophomore
Ariton Mimini collected the game winning goal in the final minutes. With the win Ramapo improves to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Montclair falls to 3-3-1 overall and opens the NJAC season at 0-1.
It was
Edward Franzoni who got Ramapo on the board at 17:11 when he ripped a shot from the right side which proved too much for the Montclair goaltender as it rebounded off his chest and into the net. The goal would be his first of the 2017 season.
The score stood until the halftime buzzer where the Red Hawks led in shots, 10-5.
Ryan Sprague made two saves in net for Ramapo and Mike Saalfrank made one for the Red Hawks in the first half of play.
At 58:56, Mike Taranto would knot the game at 1-1 but with under four minutes to play, Mimini knocked in a ball off a deflection from
Brady White to score what turned out to be the game winner.
Montclair led again in shots in the final half, 10-7 and Sprague would make four additional saves but two goals, let up by Saalfrank, would give the game to the Roadrunners. Saalfrank made two saves in the final half of play.
The Roadrunners will return to action at home on Monday, September 18th when they host John Jay at 4pm at the Athletic Center Turf.
