Union, NJ:
John Doherty struck out eight and six different Roadrunners scored as the Ramapo College baseball team earned a 6-1 win over William Paterson in the 2017 NJAC Championship Tournament to advance to tomorrow. The Roadrunners stand at 23-15 overall and William Paterson falls to 15-21-2.
Facing elimination, Ramapo scattered ten hits across the nine innings as they crossed six runs, five earned, to survive and remain in the double elimination tournament.
Doherty pitched 7.1 innings striking out eight and letting up just two hits as he led the Roadrunners from the mound. The lone run in the game for the Pioneers was unearned.
Rob DeAngelis hit 3-4 with one run scored and
Austin Unglaub and
Brandon Martinez each hit 2-5 while Martinez drove in one run.
Vincenzo Sita drove in one run and scored one of his own as
Joe Maugeri,
Bobby Shannon,
Matt Chemis, and
Mario Fontanella each crossed home plate.
The Roadrunners would go up 2-0 in the 5
th inning as Martinez drove in Maugeri and
Connor Walsh brought home DeAngelis all with two outs. It would be enough as DeAngelis's run turned out to be the game winner but Ramapo added insurance in the 8
th. Two runs came home on a throwing error and a double by Sita to left field would bring home Fontanella with a wild pitch bringing in Sita.
The Pioneers lone run would come in the bottom of the 7
th inning but it was the only threat by WPU giving Ramapo the 6-1 win.
Chris Babb gets the loss in 6.1 innings pitched. He let up seven hits and two runs. He struck out three and walked five. Doherty improves to 3-0 on the year.
Ramapo will play #4 seeded Rutgers Newark tomorrow at 3:30pm.
