Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team swept New Jersey City University 7-0 in game one and 8-0 in six innings in game two. The Roadrunners improve to 14-6 overall 5-1 in the NJAC while the Gothic Knights now stand at 7-9 overall and 0-6 in the conference.
Game one: The Roadrunners scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to get on the board.
Ally Spellman laced a double to left field and
Harper Patsko singled before
Nicole Mahoney walked to load the bases.
Shannon Cox was hit by a pitch allowing Spellman to score for a 1-0 lead before
Christina Brizek plated Patsko with a sac fly to center field taking a 2-0 lead. Ramapo added three runs in the third inning to extend their lead 5-0. Mahoney ripped a RBI double to left field plating Spellman before Cox laced a double to left field allowing Patsko to score. Brizek helped her own cause with a single to center field allowing Cox to touch home plate.
The Roadrunners scored one run in the fifth and sixth innings extending the lead 7-0. In the fifth,
Kendra Decker lifted a sac fly down the right field line as Cox came home 6-0. Cox reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning. In the sixth inning Patkso hit a RBI double to center field driving home Spellman. Spellman singled and stole second base earlier in the inning.
Brizek (3-2) earned the win on the mound for Ramapo. She struck out three, walked none and scattered four NJCU hits over six innings of work.
Paige Merle worked the seventh inning with one strike out and she did not surrender a hit. Spellman led the team in game one finishing 3-3 with three runs scored while Patkso and Mahoney each finished 2-3 in the game.
Game two: Ramapo starting pitcher
Erin Fitzsimmons (6-2) fired a two-hit shutout in game two with four strikeouts and only one walk in the 8-0 run-rule six inning game.
Ramapo got on the board with one run in the third inning. Spellman drove home
Carly Vadinsky with a sac fly to take a 1-0 lead. In the fifth, Vadinsky led of with a single, advance to second on a wild pitch before she moved to third on an infield ground out. Patsko then drove her home with a two-out single through the left side of the infield for a 2-0 score.
In the sixth inning, Ramapo put the game away with six runs on six hits. The inning was highlighted by three straight doubles off the bats of
Jackie Howarth, Spellman and Patsko. Following a walk to Mahoney, Cox then ripped a double down the left field line platting the game-winning run for an 8-0 score.
Vadinsky led the Roadrunners at the plate finishing 2-3 with three runs scored and one RBI while Patsko finshed 3-4 with two RBI and one run scored. Spellman also drove home two RBI going 2-3 with one run scored.
The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, April 11th when they travel to Rutgers-Newark University for a NJAC double header starting at 3pm.
