RAMAPO SWEEPS RUTGERS NEWARK

Newark, NJ:  The Ramapo College softball team earned a double header sweep today over the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers Newark to improve to 16-6 overall and 7-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  Ramapo took game one, 7-0 before earning a 12-3 victory in the second game.  Rutgers Newark falls to 9-15 overall and 0-8 in conference play. 
 
Game 1:  Behind a two-hitter pitching performance from Katrina Buczkowski, the Roadrunners blanked Rutgers Newark, 7-0 in the first game as she struck out four and walked just one, letting up two hits and no runs.  Buczkowski improves to 6-1 on the year.
 
Ramapo scattered 12 hits across seven innings as they blanked the Scarlet Raiders, 7-0.  The Roadrunners got on the board first in the 1st inning with a run from Jackie Howarth.  She scored after ripping a triple to lead off and was brought home by Ally Spellman who hit a sac fly to left field.  The one run was enough to take the game but the Roadrunners were not finished.
 
The Roadrunners tacked on two more in the top of the 2nd inning as Kendra Decker crossed on a single from Grace Brennan and later scored on a Carly Vadinsky single to left field.  In the 4th, Ramapo would cross three additional runs, adding another in the 6th, to take the game 7-0.  Brennan, Vadinsky, and Howarth (2) all scored for Ramapo in the final innings of play.
 
Ramapo held Rutgers Newark to two hits and no runs as Howarth proved to be the leader with three hits on four at bats and three runs.  She also collected a RBI.  Spellman hit 1-4 with two RBI and Decker went 2-4 with one run.  Brennan finished game one hitting 2-3 with two runs scored and one run batted in.  Vadinsky went 2-3 2 with one run and two RBI in the win.
 
Game 2:  Ramapo would take game two, 12-3 behind Spellman's 2-2 hitting performance with three runs and three RBI.  Harper Patsko went 2-4 with two runs and two RB while Nicole Mahoney hit 3-3 with three runs driven in.  Erin Fitzsimmons gets the win for Ramapo as she pitched 3.2 innings striking out two and walking one, letting up just one hit.  She improves to 7-2 on the year.
 
Ramapo would jump out to a 2-0 lead after one inning with runs from Spellman and Howarth before they took a commanding lead after two with four more runs in the 2nd (6-0).  Nicole Hernandez, Vadinsky, Spellman and Patsko each scored a run to put Ramapo ahead by six.
 
The Scarlet Raiders made a push in the bottom of the inning as they scored three to close the gap 3-6, but Ramapo would add a run in the 4th and five more in the 5th to take the game in five innings, 12-3. 
 
Brennan led off the 5th with a triple, Hernandez drove her home with a single, and Spellman drove in Howarth and Sisi Machinski with a double to left field.  Spellman would later score on Patsko's triple to right center before Patsko later came home on a sac fly to right field from Mahoney.
 
A one-two-three 5th inning would end the game with Ramapo on top, 12-3.
 
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow when they travel to Mt. St. Mary College for a double header match-up starting at 3pm.
