RAMAPO AND STEVENS SPLIT IN NON-CONFERENCE MATCH-UP

Weehawken, NJ:  The Ramapo College softball team split a non-conference match-up today with the Ducks of the Stevens Institute of Technology.  The Roadrunners took game one, 9-1 before falling short 6-7 in game two.  With the split the Roadrunners stand at 10-6 overall.  Stevens stands at 15-8.
 
Game 1:  Erin Fitzsimmons pitched a two-hitter and Kendra Decker and Grace Brennan scored two runs each as it took just five innings for the Roadrunners to take the first of the double header match-up.  Ramapo scattered 13 hits across five innings taking a commanding lead of 5-0 in the top of the 2nd inning. 
 
Harper Patsko led off the 2nd inning with a home run over the left field wall and with bases loaded, Sisi Machinski singled up the middle to drive home Decker.  Machinski and Brennan scored on an infield single from Jackie Howarth and Howarth later came home as Nicole Hernandez reached on an error with one out. 
 
The Ducks would cross one run in the 3rd inning as Samantha Schattin crossed home plate after doubling to get on base, but it wasn't enough as the Roadrunners tacked on four more runs in the 5th to take home the 9-1 victory.  Nicole Mahoney drove a home run over the center field fence with Nicole Hernandez on first to go up, 7-1 and Brennan ripped a home run of her own to bring in Decker to notch the win at 9-1.
 
Decker went 2-3 with two runs in the win and Brennan hit 1-2 with two runs scored and two RBI.  Howarth hit 1-4 with a run and two RBI and Mahoney finished the game hitting 1-3 with one run and two RBI. 
 
Fitzsimmons gets the win in five innings pitched as she let up just two hits and one earned run.  She improves to 4-2 on the year.
 
Schattin scored the run for the Ducks and Olivia Gemma gets the loss in three innings pitched.  She struck out two and walked one giving up nine hits and five runs.
 
Game 2: Emily Sellitti would drive a two-run home run in the bottom of the 6th inning for Stevens to score what would turn out to be the game winner as the Ducks just edged the Roadrunners 7-6 in game two. 
 
Stevens got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the 1st inning when Corinne Loncar hit a one-run home run with two outs and Gemma came home on an error putting the Ducks on top, 2-0.  The Roadrunners would cut the lead in half in the top of the 2nd with a run from Shannon Cox and they would take the lead in the top of the 3rd as Patsko drove in Ally Spellman, Mahoney came home on a double from Christina Brizek and Cox scored on a bases load walk drawn by Alexandria Rigoli
 
The Ducks answered the Roadrunners tying the game in the bottom of the inning before scoring one in the 4th and two in the 5th to take a 7-4 lead heading in to the 7th.  Decker and Brennan would each cross the plate in Ramapo's last chance at bat but it wasn't enough as Stevens took the game, 7-6.
 
Marissa Cappello got the win for the Ducks to improve to 4-4 on the year.  She struck out two and walked eight in the complete game.  Brizek takes the loss falling to 2-2.  She pitched 3.1 innings and struck out none while walking four and letting up six hits.
 
Loncar hit 2-4 with two runs and one RBI for the Ducks as Ramapo was led by Brennan who hit 2-3 with one run and one RBI.  Patsko went 2-4 with a RBI and Cox scored two runs. 
 
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, April 8th when they head to Camden for a double header match-up with NJAC rival Rutgers Camden.
