DEANGELIS LEADS RAMAPO IN LOSS TO STEVENS

Mahwah, NJ:  The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team held off a late come back by Ramapo College to win a non-conference game 6-5. The Ducks improve to 11-11-1 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 7-10 overall.
 
Ramapo got on the board as they scored one run in the first and second innings for a 2-0 lead. In the first inning Rob DeAngelis reach base on an infield error before he later scored on an RBI groundout from Joe Maugeri. In the second Corey Heitler led off the inning with a double that hit the middle of the left field fence. DeAngelis then laced a single to left field allowing Heitler to come around to score for a 2-0 lead.
 
Stevens scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning. With one out and the bases loaded Corey Natofsky worked a walk forcing home Matt Pasko. Alex Detweiler then ripped a triple to right field picking up three RBI and taking a 4-2 lead for the Ducks. In the top of the sixth the Ducks scored one run when Natofsky drove home Eric Zickert with a single to left, extending their lead 5-2.
 
DeAngelis ripped a two RBI double down the right field line in the bottom half of the sixth to come within one, 5-4 before Stevens tacked on one more run in the top of the eighth. Zickert walked to lead off the eighth inning, moved to second on a sac bunt before he stole third base. The throw sailed into left field allowing Zickert to score for a 6-4 lead.
 
Ramapo made a comeback in the bottom of the ninth. DeAngelis led off with a single while Brandon Martinez reached on an infield single with two outs. Matt Meola then laced a hard hit line drive single to right field allowing DeAngelis to score to come with in one 6-5.  The Ducks were able to get out of the inning on a lineout to first base to end the Roadrunner threat.
 
DeAngelis led the team at the plate, as he was 3-5 with two runs scored and three RBI while Bobby Shannon recorded a 2-3 day at the plate with one run scored. Brian Chinni (0-1) took the loss on the mound for the Roadrunners.
 
Ryan Larsen (2-3) recorded the win for Stevens; he struck out two, walked none and did not give up a hit over 1.1 innings of work. Charlie Ruegger recorded his fourth save, he struck out three, walked none and scattered three hits in the final two innings for Stevens.
 
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow afternoon at Jeff Maund Field when they host NJAC rival Kean University at 3:30pm.
