UNGLAUB, DEANGELIS LEAD RAMAPO OVER #27 KEAN 8-2

Union, NJ:  The Ramapo College baseball team posted an 8-2 win over NJAC rival #27 Kean University today in conference action. The Roadrunners improve to 8-10 overall and 2-1 in the NJAC while the Cougars now stand at 14-9 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
 
Ramapo pounded out 14 hits in the game including a three-run home run off the bat of Austin Unglaub in the top of the eighth inning to extend the Roadrunner lead to 7-2.
 
Ramapo got on the board with single runes in the first three innings of play to take a 3-0 lead. Joe Maugeri led off the game with a double before he scored on a RBI single from Connor Walsh in the top of the first. Vincenzo Sita drove home Bobby Shannon with a double to left field to take a 2-0 lead in the second before Walsh earned his second RBI of the game with a fielder's choice which allowed Rob DeAngelis to score. DeAngelis led off the third inning with a double in the left center field gap. The Roadrunners added one more run in the seventh inning to take a 4-0 lead when pinch hitter Matt Meola ripped a single up the middle as Brandon Martinez was able to score.
 
The Cougars got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the seventh before Ramapo added four runs in the eighth thanks to Unglaub's three-run home run. With one out Sita walked and Maugeri reached base on an infield error before Unglaub connected on his first career home run for a 7-2 lead. DeAngelis followed with a double before moving to third on a wild pitch and later scoring on a wild pitch for an 8-2 score. Ramapo held Kean in their final two at-bats to earn the NJAC conference win.
 
John Doherty (1-0) scattered five hits over 6.1 innings of work with seven strikeouts and five walks. Greg Westhelle came in for relief in the seventh and struck out two, walked none and surrendered only one hit in 1.2 innings. Kevin Foulds struck out one and did not give up a hit in the final inning for Ramapo on the mound.
 
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow at Jeff Maund Field when they host NJAC rival #17 The College of New Jersey in a double header beginning at 11:30am.
