COLONIALS TOP RAMAPO IN BASEBALL ACTION 6-2

Mahwah, NJ: The Western Connecticut State University baseball team defeated Ramapo College today 6-2 at Jeff Maund Memorial Field. The Colonials improve to 9-7 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 7-9 overall.
 
The Colonial scored two quick runs in the top of the first inning for a 2-0 lead. Frank Vartuli laced a double to left field plating Joe Costa and EJ Lavoie with the first two runs of the game.
 
Ramapo cut the WCSU lead to one in the fourth when they scored their first run of the game. Evan Ochlan led off the inning with a walk before moving to third on Joe Maugeri's double. Brandon Martinez then lifted a fly ball to center field allowing Ochlan to tag up and score. In the top of the fifth, the Colonials scored four runs on three hits to take a 6-1 lead. The inning was highlighted by Stanley Rijo's two RBI single to center field.
 
The Roadrunners got one run back in the fifth when Rob DeAngelis poked a single through the right side of the infield allowing Bobby Shannon to score. Shannon reached on an infield single earlier in the inning. Neither team scored in the final four innings as the Colonials came away with the 6-2 win.
 
George Bielizna (2-0) earned the win on the mound for WCSU. He struck out one, walked one and surrendered one hit over the first two innings of the game. Vartuli led the team as he was perfect at the plate going 3-3 with three RBI.
 
DeAngelis led the Roadrunners at the plate finishing the game 3-5 with one RBI while Maugeri and Martinez each collected two hits on four at-bats. Kyle Haag (1-1) took the loss on the mound for Ramapo, he struck out one, walked none and surrendered four runs, three earned over 4.1 innings of work.
 
The Roadrunners return to action when they host Stevens Institute of Technology on April 5th at 3:00pm in a non-conference game.
