Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team swept a NJAC double header from Stockton University today at Jeff Maund Field. The Roadrunners improve to 22-14 overall, 15-3 in the NJAC and they earn the #2 seed in the upcoming NJAC Tournament. The Ospreys wrap up the season with a 15-19 overall record and a 7-11 conference record.
Game 1: Ramapo got on the board in the bottom first inning with two runs for a 2-0 lead.
Joe Maugeri led off with a single before
Austin Unglaub smacked a triple to right-center field pushing Maugeri home for the first run of the game.
Brandon Martinez then singled home Unglaub with a single of his own. In the third inning
Rob DeAngelis poked a single to left field allowing Maugeri to score for a 3-0 lead. The Roadrunners tacked on one run in the seventh for a 4-0 lead when
Connor Walsh plated Maugeri with a sac fly.
Stockton scored their lone run in the top of the ninth inning with an RBI double before Ramapo recorded the final out of the game with a diving catch in center field by Martinez.
CJ Growney (5-3) fired a complete game, scattering six hits while striking out five and walking only one.
Game 2: Ramapo continued their early scoring in game two when they scored single runs in the first and third innings. Maugeri led off the first with a double down the right field line before he moved to third on an infield ground out. DeAngelis plated him with an RBI groundout for a 1-0 lead. In the third inning, Ramapo scored their second run with two outs when Martinez drove home Unglaub with a single through the left side of the infield.
Stockton would take a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning when they scored three runs of their own. LaPorta drove home Gustites with a single before Morello smacked a two-RBI double to take the lead. Ramapo took a 4-3 lead in the fifth. Vicenzo Sita led off the inning with a walk before Maugeri reached on a fielder's choice. Unglaub loaded the bases with a single before Martinez drove home two runs to take the lead. Ramapo pushed the score to 7-3 with three runs in the seventh inning. Walsh laced a single up the middle allowing Maugeri to score before Martinez came home on a wild pitch.
Matt Chemis smacked a double down the left field line as Walsh came around to touch home plate.
Kyle Haag (3-1) earned the win in relief for the Roadrunners with three strikeouts in 4.1 innings pitched while scattering three hits.
The Roadrunners who are the #2 seed in the NJAC Tournament and will host #5 Kean University on Tuesday at Jeff Maund Field at 3:30pm.
