Wayne, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team came back to defeat William Paterson University 14-7 on the road today at Jeff Albies Field. The Roadrunners improve to 15-14 overall and 8-3 in the NJAC while the Pioneers now stand at 12-15-2 overall and 5-6 in the conference.
Brandon Martinez drove in the first three runs for the Roadrunners and finished with five RBI in the game. Ramapo scored two runs in the third inning when Martinez drove home
Austin Unglaub and
Rob DeAngelis with a triple to right-center field. Unglaub and DeAngelis each singled to reach base earlier in the inning.
Ramapo added three runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-0 lead.
Joe Maugeri led off with a walk and moved to second a sac bunt before DeAngelis singled through the infield to put runners on first and third. Martinez then singled home Maugeri to make it 3-0 before
Connor Walsh and
Bobby Shannon each singled to bring home two runs for a 5-0 lead.
WPU would tie the game in the bottom of the fifth inning as they scored five runs on five hits. They were able to push across the game tying run on a bases loaded walk. The Pioneers took a 6-5 lead in the sixth inning with one run before Ramapo re-tied the game at six in the seventh inning. Martinez and Walsh walked before
Matt Chemis poked a RBI single through the left side of the infield allowing Martinez to come around and score. WPU made it 7-6 with a run in the bottom of the eighth before Ramapo came back with eight runs in the top of the ninth inning. Martinez once again started off the inning with a single before Walsh walked. Martinez was erased on a fielder's choice before Chemis singled home pinch runner

Vincenzo Sita walked pushing home Bobby Shanon for an 8-7 lead. Maugeri then laced a single up the middle platting two runs to make it 10-7 before the bases were loaded for DeAngelis who drew a bases loaded walk allowing Sita to score 11-7. Martinez then plated his final two RBI of the game with a single to center field 13-7 before
Matt Meola hit a pinch hit sac fly plating DeAngelis with the final run of the inning 14-7.
Ramapo held the Pioneers in their final at bat to earn the win in the first game of the home-and-home-series.
Greg Westhelle earned the win on the mound for Ramapo in relief; he struck out two, walked none and surrendered one hit. The Roadrunners belted out 16 hits in the game including four extra base hits. Martinez led the team with a 4-5 day including five RBI and two runs scored. Chemis finished 3-5 with one run scored and two RBI while Maugeri was 1-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.
The Roadrunners host the Pioneers tomorrow afternoon at Jeff Maund Memorial Field at 3:30pm in a NJAC conference game.
