Glassboro, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team picked up a win today in the second game of a doubleheader New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up on the road against Rowan University. The Roadrunners were shut out, 0-4 in game one but fought back to take the second game, 3-2. With the spilt the Roadrunners stand at 7-8 overall. Rowan stands at 15-7. Both teams earn one win and one loss in conference play and stand at 1-1 in the NJAC.
Game 1: The Roadrunners were held to just four hits and no runs in the first match-up of the day as the Profs scattered eight hits across eight innings. Four runs crossed the plate to give the Profs the 4-0 shut out behind a pitching performance from Danny Serreino. Serreino improves to 2-0 as he struck out seven in seven innings pitched. He walked just two facing 22 batters.
Cory Heitler falls to 0-2 as he takes the loss in seven innings. He struck out eight and walked four in the loss.
The Profs got on the board in the bottom of the 3rd inning, a run by Shane Brown that turned out to be the game winner. Joe Sadler ripped a single to left center to drive in the run. Two more runs scored in the 5th and an additional one in the 6th but they were not needed as Brad Machinski came in in relief holding the Roadrunners scoreless and taking the 4-0 win.
Brown led the Profs hitting 2-3 with two runs and one RBI and Jason Clapper and Matt Edwards each scored a run of their own.
Game 2: Three different Roadrunners scored and it took just six hits to take the second game of the day, 3-2. Rowan would take a 2-0 lead after three innings, but in the top of the 7th,
Matt Chemis would cross home plate on a throwing error after reaching first with a single up the middle to close the gap, 1-2. Ramapo would tack on two more runs in the 8th inning to score what turned out to be the game winner.
Rob DeAngelis doubled to right field to drive in both
Bobby Shannon and
Austin Unglaub. Unglaub singled to reach base and Shannon touched first on a double both with one out.
Jerry D'Andrea started the game for Ramapo and pitched 6.2 innings but
CJ Growney closed out the game and gets the win to improve to 2-2 on the year. Growney pitched 1.2 innings as he struck out two and walked none. Andrew Cohen gets the loss to fall to 1-3. Cohen struck out six and walked two.
Chemis finished the game hitting 1-4 with one run and Unglaub and Shannon each went 1-4 with a run scored. DeAngelis gets the two RBI hitting 1-3 and
Joe Maugeri and
Mario Fontanella each picked up a win in the game.
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow as they host Western Connecticut State at 3:30pm.
