RAMAPO SOFTBALL SWEEPS WPU 8-0 & 3-0

Wayne, NJ:  The Ramapo College softball team improved to 21-7 overall and 11-1 in the NJAC with a double-header sweep over rival William Paterson University today.  The Roadrunners snapped the Pioneers 15-game win streak with an 8-0 run rule shortened game one and a 3-0 blanking in game two. The Pioneers now stand at 20-8 overall, 10-2 in the conference.

Game 1: Rampao got on the board quickly with two runs in the top of the first inning. Jackie Howarth led off the game with a single up the middle before being forced out at second base by a fielder's choice from Ally Spellman. Harper Patsko reached via an infield error before Nicole Mahoney smacked a double into right-center field plating the two runs for Ramapo 2-0.

In the third inning Ramapo would score four runs on three hits taking a 6-0 lead. With the bases loaded and one out, Grace Brennan drove a pitch to center field that cleared the bases as she earned a stand up double. Mahoney, Shannon Cox and Christina Brizek all scored. Mahoney singled, Cox walked and Brizek beat out a bunt single earlier in the inning. Brennan moved to third on a sac bunt from Nicole Hernandez and later scored on an infield error. Mahoney made it 8-0 in favor of the Roadrunners in the fourth inning when she laced a single up the middle plating Howarth and Spellman.

Ramapo starting pitcher Erin Fitzsimmons (8-3) struck out one, walked one while she spun a three-hit shutout. Howarth and Mahoney each collected three hits in the game while Mahoney recorded four RBI. Brennan was 1-3 with one run scored and three RBI.

Game 2: The game was locked in a pitchers dual until the sixth inning when Ramapo broke through with two runs in the top half of the inning. Mahoney led off with a single before she moved to second on a sac from Cox. Starting pitcher Brizek helped her own cause with a double to left field allowing Mahoney to come around to score for a 1-0 lead. Sisi Machinski later drove home Brennan with a single up the middle for a 2-0 score.

The Roadrunners added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning. Spellman and Patsko led off the inning with back-to-back singles before Mahoney drove home Spellman with a double to take a 3-0 lead. Brizek (6-2) went the distance for Ramapo in the complete game shutout. She struck out two, walked one and scattered four hits. Mahoney, Brennan and Machinski each collected two hits in the game.
