Camden, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team won a key NJAC double header today on the road over Rutgers-Camden University 9-3 in game one and 11-3 in game two. The Roadrunners improve to 13-14 overall and 7-3 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raptors fall to 10-17 overall, 1-9 in the conference.
Game 1: Ramapo saw themselves down three runs heading into the top of the fourth inning when they scored four of their own to take a 4-3 lead. The Roadrunners scored all four runs with two outs in the inning. Three walks loaded the bases before
Vincenzo Sita laced a single to left field plating two runs. Following a Scarlet Raptor pitching change and a walk to load the bases once again,
Austin Unglaub and
Rob DeAngelis each drew bases loaded walks to plate two runs for a 4-3 lead.
Bobby Shannon ripped a double down the left field line in the seventh inning before
Chris Nierva drove him home with a double to center field for a 5-3 score. Ramapo added four runs on five hits in the eighth inning. Unglaub singled home
Mario Fontanella with a single through the left side of the infield before Unglaub later scored on a wild pitch.
Brandon Martinez smacked his team leading fifth home run of the season over the left field wall, a two run shot as
Rob DeAngelis scored for a 9-3 lead.
Jerry D'Andrea (2-3) struck out six, walked three and scattered four hits in eight innings of work for Ramapo as he earned the win.
Kyle Haag entered the game in the ninth inning and did not give up a hit to seal the win for Rampao. Unglaub and Shannon led the team with two hits each.
Game 2: Ramapo belted out 12 hits in game two as they defeated the Scarlet Raptors 11-3. The Roadrunners were down 0-1 heading into the third inning when Ramapo came back with three runs for a 3-1 lead. Fontenalla led off with a triple to right field before
Derek Romberg laced a single to center field to tie the game 1-1. Following a sac, Unglaub smacked a double plating Romberg for a 2-1 lead. DeAngelis then plated Unglaub with a sac fly to push the score to 3-1. The Scarlet Raptors scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game 3-3 before pushed one run across in the fifth. Martinez drove home
Kevin Cagnetta with an infield single for a 4-3 lead. The Roadrunners scored five runs on two hits in the sixth inning taking a 9-3 lead. The bases were loaded when Cagnetta hit a sac fly to center field plating Shannon before Unglaub walked to load the bases once again. DeAngelis then cracked his first home run of the season, a grand slam over the right field wall to extend the Roadrunner lead. With two outs in the eighth Unglaub doubled before he scored on an infield throwing error for a 10-3 lead.
Kyle Haag (2-1) earned the win in relief as he worked 5.1 innings with three strikeouts, one walk and scattered eight hits. Unglab,
Connor Walsh and Shannon led the team with two hits while DeAngelis led the team with five RBI.
The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, April 18th when they host St. Joseph's College-LI in a non-conference game starting at 3:30pm.
