RAMAPO DEFEATS NJCU 6-2 IN KEY NJAC WIN

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College baseball team defeated New Jersey City University 6-2 to sweep the NJAC home-and-home series today at Jeff Maund Field.
The Roadrunners improve to 11-14 overall, 5-3 in the NJAC while the Gothic Knights fall to 9-13 overall and 1-7 in the conference.
 
Ramapo got on the board in the bottom half of the second inning with two runs. Brandon Martinez blasted his team leading fourth home run of the season over the left field wall for a solo shot to take a 1-0 lead. Connor Walsh walked moved to third on a Matt Chemis double before he scored on a RBI ground out from Mario Fontanella for a 2-0 lead.
 
NJCU got one run back in the top of the third when Nick Ruscingno lifted a sac fly to right field plating CJ Pulcine to get on the board. Ramapo added two more runs in the fifth inning. Austin Unglaub laced a single up the middle scoring Fontanella before Rob DeAngelis smacked a double to right field allowing Vincenzo Sita to score for a 4-1 lead.
 
In the sixth, the Gothic Knights plated one run to come within two 4-2 when Joe Coutinho singled home Ruscingno. The Roadrunners recorded two more runs in the sixth inning. Pinch hitter Chris Nierva and Fontanella were each hit by a pitch to reach base with one out before Sita ripped a double to the right-center field gap allowing Nierva to score. Fontanella then came home on Austin Unglaub's sac fly to left field for a 6-2 lead.
 
CJ Growney (3-3) earned the win for Ramapo on the mound with seven strikeouts over seven innings pitch while he scattered six hits. Kevin Foulds worked the eighth inning and Greg Whesthelle worked the ninth inning while they only surrendered one hit apiece. Six different Roadrunners recorded a hit while Unglaub led the team with two RBI.
 
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow at Rutgers-Camden University in a NJAC double header that begins at 11:30am.
