Jersey City, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team, behind a big hit from
Matt Chemis in the 10th, propelled past the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University, 5-3 today in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up. With the win Ramapo improves to 10-14 overall and 4-3 in the conference, while NJCU falls to 9-12 overall and 1-6 in the NJAC. The two teams will meet again tomorrow in Mahwah at 3:30pm.
Chemis would blast a single up the middle in the 10th driving in two runs as he led Ramapo to their tenth win of the season. The Roadrunners scattered eight hits across the ten innings of play as they scored three runs in the 9th to tie the game, crossing what turned out to be the game winning run in the 9th.
John Doherty started the game and pitched 6.2 innings. He struck out ten and let up five hits, before
Kevin Foulds came in in relief pitching 3.1 innings. He earned the win striking out five and walking none. He gets his first win of the season at 1-0.
Chemis drove in the game winning run, plus an insurance run, as he hit 1-4 with three RBI.
Connor Walsh went 2-4 with a RBI as
Rob DeAngelis hit 2-5 scoring two runs.
Brandon Martinez scored one run and
Kevin Cagnetta crossed the plate while
Bobby Shannon came home for one run of his own.
Ramapo would fall behind 3-0 as the Gothic Knights crossed one run in the 4th and two additional in the 7th, but in the 9th Ramapo would tie it up as Walsh doubled to left with DeAngelis on first to get on the scoreboard. Cagnetta would come home on a Chemis sac fly to close the gap, 2-3 before
Vincenzo Sita drove in Shannon to tie it up at 3-3.
After a 1-2-3 bottom of the 9th, Ramapo would use one extra inning to take the game. With one out, DeAngelis doubled to left field and with bases loaded Chemis would drive a single up the middle bringing home two for a 5-3 lead. Another 1-2-3 bottom would end the game with Ramapo in the lead at 5-3 to take the first of the home-away series with NJCU.
Mike Ramirez pitched nine innings striking out eight and letting up six hits and three runs, before Kyle Kafer came in for the 10th taking the loss to fall to 1-3 on the year. He struck out two and walked two, letting up two hits and two runs.
Bill Feehan scored one run and Nick Ruscingno added one of his own as Lenin Gomez also crossed the plate for NJCU.
