OLD WESTBURY TOPS RAMAPO IN BASEBALL ACTION 4-0

Old Westbury, NY: The Old Westbury baseball team shutout Ramapo College today 4-0 in a non-conference game. The Panthers improve to 15-12 overall while the Roadrunners fall to 9-14 overall.
 
In the bottom of the third inning Old Westbury broke through with one unearned run to take a 1-0 lead. With two outs, Jesse Russo reached on an error and stole second base before Tommy Ziegen poked a single through the left side of the infield allowing Russo to score. They added one run in the fifth inning when Russo cracked a solo home run over right field wall for a 2-0 score.
 
Ramapo had one of their best chances to score in the top of the sixth inning when Rob DeAngelis and Brandon Martinez hit back-to-back singles to lead off the inning. An groundout moved them each up one base before the Panthers relief pitcher induced two ground outs to end the threat. In the bottom of the eighth, Old Westbury added two runs to extend the lead 4-0. David Hawley and Kevin Lao each hit RBI doubles to plate the third and fourth run for the Panthers. Old Westbury held Ramapo in the top of the ninth for the win.
 
Steven Tellerias earned the win on the mound for Old Westbury improving to 2-0 on the year. He worked the first five innings and scattered seven hits. Trey Pizzutello earned the save in relief working the final four innings with three strikeouts, no walks and scattered three hits.
 
Tyler Lombardo (0-1) took the loss on the mound for Ramapo. He struck out five, walked three and surrendered just four hits over 7.1 innings of work. Austin Unglaub led the team at the plate finishing 3-4.
 
The Roadrunners return to action in the first game of the home-and-home series against NJAC rival New Jersey City University. Ramapo will travel to NJCU tomorrow afternoon for a 3:30pm start.
