Mahwah, NJ: The Kean University women's lacrosse team held off a second half come back by Ramapo College to defeat the Roadrunners 20-10 in NJAC action today at the Athletic Center. The Cougars improve to 9-3 overall and 2-0 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 5-6 overall, 0-2 in the conference.
Kean used a 13-goal attack in the first half to post a 13-4 lead heading into halftime. The Cougars scored six unanswered goals for a 6-0 lead before Ramapo's
Molly Warner put the Roadrunners on the board with an unassisted goal with under 19 minutes to play in the half. Kean put five more goals into the back of the net including two straight by Emily Stasuck, both on free position shots for an 11-1 lead. Ramapo would score three straight goals over the next seven minutes, two by
Alyssa Tachon and one my Warner to come within 11-4. Kean closed out the half with goals from Meghan Tillger and Andrea Trentacosti for a 13-4 score.
Gabi Davidson opened the scoring in the second half for both teams as she notched an unassisted goal with 28:11 on the clock. Kean added two goals before Tachon scored her third goal of the game for a 15-6 score. Danni LeSaint scored on a free position shot for Kean to get the lead back to ten 16-6 before the Roadrunners tallied three straight goals to come within six.
Nicole Jaskot scored one while Tachon tallied her fourth and fifth goals of the game for Ramapo, all free position shots for a 16-10 score. Kean ended the game with four straight unanswered goals, pulling away for a 20-10 road win.
LeSaint and Stasuck each collected four goals in the game for Kean while Tillger tallied three assists. Nikki Apostolopoulos recorded 11 saves in the net for the Cougars.
Tachon paced the Ramapo scoring attack with five goals while Warner and Davison added two each.
Monica Bubello recorded five saves in the first 41 minutes of action in the net for the Roadrunners while
Taylor Marcialis closed out the game with two saves.
The Roadrunners return to action on April 18th when they travel to Montclair State University for a NJAC game at 7pm.
