CSI DEFEATS RAMAPO IN 12 INNINGS 9-8

Staten Island, NY:  The College of Staten Island baseball team came back with a run in the bottom of the 12th inning to defeat Ramapo College 9-8. The Dolphins improve to 12-7-1 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 9-13 on the year.
 
CSI scored one run in the bottom of the second when Jett Nouvertne drove home Josh Mercado with a double for a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the third the Dolphins took a 3-0 lead when Mercado laced a single up middle plating two.
 
In the top of the fifth inning Ramapo came back with four runs. Vincenzo Sita led off with a double before Joe Maugeri walked and Derek Romberg reached on an error to lead the bases. Rob DeAngelis came up big with a bases clearing triple to right-center field to tie the game at three. Brandon Martinez then plated the go ahead run with a sac fly to center field allowing DeAngelis to score for a 4-3 lead. In the top of the sixth the Roadrunners extended their lead to 7-3. Sita scored on a wild pitch before Martinez plated Romberg with his second sac fly to center field for a 6-3 lead. DeAngelis later scored to make it 7-3 when Connor Walsh reached on an error and was caught trying to move to second on an over throw.  
 
In the bottom of the seventh CSI came back with two runs to close the gap 7-5 before they took an 8-7 lead in the bottom of the eighth. With one out, Glenn Glennerster ripped a double to center field with the bases loaded to take a one run lead. In the top of the ninth Ramapo came back to score one run to tie the game 8-8. Martinez doubled before Bobby Shannon drove him home with a hard hit single through the left side of the infield. It took until the 12th inning to break the tie as CSI scored a run with two outs as Bobby Drake poked a single to second base allowing Glennerster to score for the walk-off Dolphin win 9-8.
 
Chris Karnbach earned the win in relief for CSI as he struck out two, walked one and scattered six hits over the final 7.2 innings of work.
 
Robert Sartori took the loss for Ramapo; he struck out two, walked none over the final 1.2 innings. DeAngelis led the team at the plate finishing 3-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Maugeri and Martinez each collected two hits for the Roadrunners.
 
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to the College of Old Westbury for a non-conference game beginning at 4pm.
