Mahwah, NJ: The Rutgers-Newark University men's volleyball team defeated Ramapo College 3-1 (25-23, 18-25, 25-23, 25-23) tonight at the Bradley Center in a non-conference match. The Scarlet Raiders improve to 9-12 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 10-8 on the year.
Corey Piper led both teams with 17 kills while Justin Sandy added eight kills in the match for Rutgers-Newark. Brendon Frank dished out a team high 23 assists while Arnan Romua added 11 of his own. Jake Connors led the team on defense with 14 digs and Pieper contributed with 12 digs. Pieper and Ricky Crumlish each collected four blocks. The team hit .248 with 45 kills on 121 attempts and 15 errors.
Ramapo saw three players tally double digits in kills in the match.
Connor Brandow led the team with 15 kills on 29 attempts with only three errors to hit .414 in the match.
Paul Close hit .258 with 13 kills on 31 attempts and five errors while
Justin Feigeles added 11 kills of his own and nine digs. Terrance Cando led the team with 17 digs on defense including four assists.
Garrett Fitzsimmons hit .750 in the match with six kills on eight attempts while he dished out a team high 42 assists. The team hit .222 in the match with 53 kills on 135 attempts and 23 errors.
The Roadrunners return to action when they host a Skyline Tri-Match on Saturday, March 18th beginning at 10am. Ramapo hosts Mount Saint Vincent (NY) and St. Joseph's College Brooklyn.
