BASEBALL FALLS TO DREW 6-5 IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION

Madison, NJ:  The Drew University baseball team pushed a run across the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning to propel the Rangers to a 6-5 win over #24 Ramapo College today in non-conference action.  The Rangers improve to 9-3 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 4-6 on the year.
 
Drew scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead before Ramapo came back with three runs in the top of the fourth. Brandon Martinez led off with a single before Austin Unglaub singled through the right side of the infield allowing Martinez to get to third base. Unglaub moved up to second on the relay throw from the outfield to put runners on second and third with only one out. Matt Chemis then ripped a single to plate both runs before Mario Fontanella doubled to left center field allowing Chemis to score for the 3-1 lead.
 
The Rangers tied the game up in the bottom half of the fourth inning with two runs as Rodrigues drove them home with a double. Ramapo took the lead back in the sixth inning when Fontanella ripped his second run scoring double of the game allowing Chemis to score from first base for a 4-3 lead. Drew tied the game once again in the seventh 4-4 before Brandon Martinez led off the top of the eighth with his third home run of the season taking a 5-4 lead for Ramapo.
 
Drew scored one run in the eight, 5-5, before they plating the game winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning taking the game 6-5.
 
Cory Heitler earned a no-decision for the Roadrunners. He struck out eight, walked two, scattered five his and surrendered four runs in 6.1 innings of work. Jerry D'Andrea came in for relief in the seventh, striking out one and letting up one run on three hits. Greg Westhelle (1-2) earned the tough loss working the final inning and half; he struck out one, walked one and surrendered one run on two hits.
 
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Reading, PA to take on SUNY New Paltz at Alvernia University. The Roadrunners and Hawks will play two seven-inning games beginning at 1pm.
