Reading, PA: The Ramapo College baseball team split a non-conference double header today against SUNY New Paltz. The Hawks (5-5) defeated Ramapo in game one 5-1 while #24 Ramapo (5-7) took game two 9-3.
In game one, one run in the second, third and fourth innings before they added two runs in the fifth inning taking a 5-0 lead. Conor Donachie improved to 3-1 on the mound for the Hawks as he kept the Roadrunners bats quiet in the game with four strikeouts, no walks and scattered seven hits over 5.1 innings of work. Ryan Votypka worked the final 1.2 innings and did not surrender a hit.
Ramapo scored their lone run in the sixth inning when
Bobby Shannon drove home
Connor Walsh with a RBI single to left field.
CJ Growney (1-2) took the loss on the mound for Ramapo, he worked the first four innings scattering six hits and surrendering five runs, four earned.
In game two, Ramapo got on the board early in the bottom of the first inning.
Rob DeAngelis worked a lead off walk and stole second before
Matt Chemis drew a walk.
Joe Maugeri then ripped a triple to center field allowing both runners to score for a 2-0 lead.
Brandon Martinez then singled home Maugeri with a single to center adding a third run to the board for the Roadrunners. Following a sac bunt from
Austin Unglaub to move Martinez to second,
Mario Fontanella laced a single to plate the team's fourth run of the game.
Fontanella collected his second RBI of the game with a sac fly in the fourth inning once again plating Martinez for a 5-0 lead. New Paltz scored one run in the top of the fourth and two runs in the top of the fifth to close the Ramapo lead 5-3. The Roadrunners got two back in the bottom of the fifth inning, the bases were loaded with one out when
Matt Meola was hit by a pitch forcing home Maugeri before Vincent Sita drove home Martinez with a sac fly to center field for the 7-3 lead. Martinez drove home Ramapo's final two runs of the game with a two-out single allowing Shannon and pinch runner
Evan Ochlan to come around and score for the 9-3 lead.
Kyle Haag (1-0) earned the win on the mound for the Roadrunners, he struck out four, walked none and scattered six hits over 4.2 innings of work while surrendered three runs, two earned.
Kevin Foulds pitched the final 2.1 innings of work with four strikeouts including one to end the game in the seventh inning. He walked one and gave up only one hit.
Martinez led Ramapo at the plate finishing game two 3-3 with three runs scored and three RBI while Maugeri was 2-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Fontanella drove home two RBI while finishing 1-1 at the plate while Shannon was 2-3 with one run scored.
The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, March 28th against Western Connecticut State University in a non-conference game at home beginning at 3:30pm.
