#5/8 WIS. LA CROSSE SLIPS PAST #17 RAMAPO 5-3

Auburndale, FL:  The #5/8 ranked Wisconsin La Crosse baseball team defeated #17 Ramapo College today 5-3 at the RussMatt Invitational. The Roadrunners now stand at 2-4 overall while the Eagles improve to 4-3 overall.
 
The Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning with run scoring hits from Alex Robson and Alex Barnard while the third run scored on a wild pitch.
 
Ramapo got on the board with two runs in the third inning to come within one run. Rob DeAngelis led off with a triple before Joe Maugeri earned and RBI single for a 3-1 score. Following a double from Brandon Martinez putting runners on the corners, Austin Unglaub then pick up an RBI with an infield ground out as Maugeri scored, 3-2. La Crosse added an unearned run in the sixth for a 4-2 lead before Ramapo added one run in the bottom half of the inning to once again come within one 4-3. Matt Chemis was hit by a pitch before being lifted for pinch runner Kevin Cagnetta. Cagnetta later scored on a wild pitch.
 
Wisconsin added an insurance run in the top of the ninth extending their lead 5-3 with an unearned run. La Crosse got the Roadrunners to go down 1-2-3 in the bottom half of the ninth coming away with the win.
 
Cory Heitler (0-1) worked the first six innings for Ramapo, he struck out five, walked two and scattered seven hits. He surrendered four runs, three earned. Greg Westhelle struck out five, walked one over the final three innings. He scattered three hits and one run, unearned.
 
Ramapo collected ten hits in the game including a 3-5 performance from Joe Maugeri with one run scored and one RBI. Martinez finished 2-3 with a double.
 
The Roadrunners return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon for a double header against the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point beginning at 2:30pm.
