FONTANELLA, SHANNON LEAD RAMAPO IN 7-3 WIN

Auburndale, FL:  The #17 ranked Ramapo College baseball team defeated UMass-Dartmouth 7-3 today at the RussMatt Invitational. The Roadrunners improve to 2-3 overall while the Corsairs now stand at 2-5 on the year.
 
Each team pushed across one run in the second inning for a 1-1 tie. Ramapo took a 1-0 lead in the top half of the inning when Connor Walsh scored from third base on a fielder's choice of the bat of Mario Fontanella. The Corsairs put their run on the board in the bottom half of the inning with a RBI single from O'Neill to tie the game at one.
 
Ramapo added one run in the top of the fifth; with two outs Rob DeAngelis singled and stole second base. Joe Maugeri then laced a single into center field allowing DeAngelis to come around and score for the 2-1 lead. UMass-Dartmouth took a 3-2 lead in the fifth until the Roadrunners came back with five runs on four hits in the top of the sixth inning. With one out and runners on first and second, Fontanella ripped a single to centerfield allowing Austin Unglaub to score. Unglaub walked earlier in the inning. Brandon Martinez then smacked a pinch hit double down the right field line as Vincent Sita scored. Bobby Shannon them drove the third pitch he saw over the left field fence for a three-run homerun plating Fontanella and Martinez for a 7-3 lead.
 
The Roadrunner pitching staff only surrendered two hits to the Corsairs the final four innings to earn the victory. Greg Westhelle who entered the game in relief in the fifth inning earned the win. He struck out three, walked none and gave up only one hit in 2.2 innings of work. Starting pitcher Kyle Haag earned a no decision in the win as he struck out six, walked one and scattered eight hits over 4.1 innings of work. Robert Sartori struck out two and surrendered only one hit in one inning of relief while Kevin Foulds struck out three, walked one in the ninth inning.
 
Shannon finished 1-5 with one run scored and three RBI while Joe Crabbe was perfect at the plate 3-3. DeAngelis, Maugeri each collected two hits while Fontanella finished 1-4 with two RBI and one run scored.
 
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow at the RussMatt Invitational when they take on #5/8 Wisconsin LaCrosse at 3:30pm.
