Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team won their second straight NJAC conference game with a 47-43 victory over Rutgers-Camden University tonight at the Bradley Center. The Roadrunners improve to 9-14 overall and 4-12 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raptors drop to 13-10 overall and 7-9 in the conference.
The Roadrunners were led by
Jenna Harsh as she scored a team high 13 points and tallied six rebounds while
Tia Solomon posted a team high 11 rebounds and six points.
Bridgette Buckalew dished out a team high four assists while she scored five points and added four rebounds.
Bintou Berete tallied seven points while
Jina Crawford added six points of her own. The team shot 37% (19-51) from the field, 20% (2-10) from the three-point line and 63% (7-11) from the free throw line. Ramapo scored 14 points off of Rutgers-Camden turnovers and out rebounded the Scarlet Raptors 50-38.
Cara Racobaldo and Fatimah Williams each scored 11 points for Rutgers-Camden while Jovan Childers and Racobaldo each grabbed a team high eight rebounds. Childers scored seven points while Gabby Greene added six points of her own. The team shot 26% (17-65) from the floor, 7% (2-27) from the three-point line and 46% (7-15) from the free throw line.
Hannah Cambel scored a jumper as time expired in the first quarter that started an 8-0 run and put the Roadrunners up three, 18-15 with 4:24 in the second quarter. Early in the third quarter Rutgers-Camden came back to tie the game and take a one point lead before Ramapo went on a 7-1 run to close out the quarter and take a 30-25 lead on two mad free throws from
Samantha Rinaldi.
In the fourth quarter, Ramapo led by as many as seven 32-25 with under nine minutes to play before the Scarlet Raptors went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to one 32-31. The Roadrunners got back-to-back baskets from Harsh 36-31. The two teams traded baskets before Rutgers-Camden went on a 6-0 run taking a one point lead (39-38) with 3:23 on the clock. Crawford sank two free throws and Solomon scored a jumper to regain a 42-39 lead before Greene nailed a three-pointer for Rutgers-Camden tying the game at 42 with under two minutes to play in the game. Solomon took a dish from Buckalew scoring for the Roadrunners 44-42 before Williams hit one free throw for the Scarlet Raptors final points of the game. Crawford nailed a jumper with 20 seconds left in the game to go up three, 46-43 before Buckalew tallied a free throw with 11 seconds remaining for a 47-43 win.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, February 11th when they host NJAC rival New Jersey City University at 1pm. The Roadrunners will honor their senior class prior to the start of the game.
