Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team, behind
Jina Crawford, defeated the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University, 63-30 at the Bradley Center today. With the New Jersey Athletic Conference win, the Roadrunners wrap up the regular season home contests standing at 10-14 overall and 5-12 in the conference. Their final game of the season will take place on Wednesday, February 15th when they travel to Rowan University for a 6pm tip.
Crawford collected a team leading 14 points in the team's 10th win of the season over NJCU (4-20, 0-17). Crawford hit 6-9 from the field including a perfect 2-2 from the free throw line.
Bintou Berete pulled down 14 rebounds and
Kellie Lane sank ten points of her own. Berete added nine points as the team shot 20-40 (50%) I the game.
Bridgette Buckalew grabbed three steals in the win.
The Roadrunners jumped out to a 29-14 lead at the half behind eight points from Lane. After NJCU struck first in the game with a two-point goal from Ziyadah Williams, Ramapo strung together a 6-0 run, sparked with a three-point goal from
Shelby Ringer to lead 6-2. With the Roadrunners ahead, 6-4, Crawford sparked another 6-0 run to put the Roadrunners ahead, 12-4 with 4:38 to play. Ringer would nail down a free throw to close out the quarter with Ramapo ahead, 17-10. To start the second, Ramapo would work to a 24-12 lead with a basket from Crawford with 8:10 to go before working to their biggest lead of 15, 29-14 at the halftime buzzer. The Roadrunners shot 10-20 (50%) in the half as NJCU went 4-23 (17%) from the field behind six points from Jazz Randall.
In the third quarter Ramapo worked to a 28 point, (46-18) lead, which would come at the buzzer when Buckalew nailed down three free throws after a NJCU foul. Ramapo gained the lead by stringing together an 11-0 run mid-quarter, sparked by
Tia Solomon and capped by Berete. In the final quarter, Ramapo would continue to control the offensive game closing out the match-up with a 9-0 run, taking the NJAC win, 63-30. Berete collected six points and a team leading ten rebounds in the half while the team went 10-20 (50%). NJCU was led by Williams and Atonie Johnson with five points each. The team hit 7-27 in the half.
Randall led the Gothic Knights with eight points and Williams netted seven as the team hit 11-50 (22%) from the field. Williams grabbed five rebounds and Kiana Briggs dished out three assists in the loss.
