Ewing, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team traveled to the Lions of the College of New Jersey today where they posted a 47-42 win in the New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up behind 13 points from
Jenna Harsh. With the victory the Roadrunners improve to 8-14 overall and 3-12 in the conference. TCNJ falls under .500 to 10-11 overall and 7-8 in conference play.
Harsh shot 5-8 from the field for 13 points and pulled down a team leading eight boards to lead the Roadrunners to the NJAC win. In a game where the lead changed eight times and was tied five, the Roadrunners shot a combined 18-46 (39%). The Lady Roadrunners forced 17 Lion turnovers and grabbed ten steals.
Tia Solomon collected 11 points,
Jina Crawford added eight, and
Bridgette Buckalew collected four assists in the win.
Ramapo jumped out to a 6-0 start as Solomon sparked the run with a jumper and
Bintou Berete capped the run with a free throw. TCNJ would respond with an 8-0 run to take the lead, 8-6 with 3:15 to play in the first quarter. The team traded baskets down the stretch leaving Ramapo with a 12-10 lead at the buzzer. In the second, the Roadrunners held the lead the entire way, leading by five after a layup from Crawford at 2:51, but a 7-0 run by the Lions, capped by a three-point goal from Charlotte Schum would put TCNJ ahead, 23-21 with 28 seconds on the clock. Jessica Repasy hit a two-point goal at the buzzer to head into the locker room tied at 23. Harsh led Ramapo with seven points and Crawford added four as the team hit 9-23 (39%). Schum led TCNJ with eight points while the team shot 7-27 (26%).
At the start of the third quarter, a free throw from
Samantha Rinaldi sparked a 7-0 run to put Ramapo on top, 30-23, a run which was capped by a layup from Crawford. The Lions answered with an 11-0 run to go ahead, 34-30 with just over one minute to go in the quarter. The Roadrunners would string together two mini 4-0 runs in the fourth, plus a 5-0 run to close out the game on top, earning the 47-42 victory. Solomon put away nine points in the half as the team went 9-23 (39%). TCNJ was led by Christine Woods with seven points. The Lions combined hitting 7-28 (25%) from the field.
Chiara Palombi led the Lions with ten points and Schum and Kate O'Leary finished with eight points each as the team went 14-55 (26%) from the field. Palombi and Nikki Schott each pulled down eight rebounds in the loss while O'Leary dished out three assists.
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, February 8th when they host Rutgers Camden at 5:30pm at the Bradley Center.
