Ewing, NJ: The #7 ranked Ramapo College men's basketball team suffered a 78-84 loss today at the hands of the Lions of the College of New Jersey on the road. With the New Jersey Athletic Conference loss, Ramapo falls to 20-2 overall on the year and 13-2 in conference play. The Lions improve to 16-6 overall and 12-3 in the NJAC.
Four Lions scored in double-digit figures as Eric Murdock, Jr. led the way with 18 points and Elias Bermudez and Ryan Jensen each added 15. Eric Klacik added 14 points in the win as the team combined for 27-52 (52%) from the field. Murdock completed the double-double with 11 assists and Klacik dished out five, while Corey Stanford and Jensen each pulled down six rebounds. The Lions forced 13 turnovers and grabbed five steals in the win.
The Lions would work to a 17-10 lead to start the game before a layup from
Thomas Bonacum sparked a 7-0 run to tie the game at 17-17. The run was capped with a long shot from
Sultan Aminu. A three from
James Long, followed by a basket from Aminu would give Ramapo the lead at 22-20 with 9:03 on the clock. Over the next three plus minutes the teams traded baskets until a layup from Bermudez tied the game at 26 with 6:02 to play. The Lions would string together a 6-0 run to go ahead, 30-26 with a basket from Klacik. In the final minutes of the half, the Roadrunners put together a 5-0 run, sparked by Aminu and capped by Bonacum to close out the half with a 33-32 lead over the Lions. Aminu led the Roadrunners in the first half with seven points and
Josh Ford and Long each added six. The team hit 13-31 (42%) in the half as the Lions went 9-26 (35%). Jensen led the Lions with nine points and Murdock picked up eight of his own.
Ramapo started the second half with two free throws from
Christopher Moseley and worked to a 43-38 lead with a layup from Moseley at 16:52. The Lions would fight back to tie the game at 53-53 with a layup from Bermudez and 11:22 on the clock and Klacik nailed a three-point goal to take a 56-53 lead just under one minute later. TCNJ would take control of the game working to a ten-point, 83-73 advantage at the 0:47 minute mark with free throws from Murdock. The Lions closed out the game taking home the 84-78 win. Murdock led the Lions with ten second half points and Bermudez, Klacik and Jordan Glover each added nine. The team hit 18-26 (69%) in the half as Ramapo went 16-28 (57%). Moseley led the Roadrunners in the final half of play with ten points.
Moseley finished on top of Ramapo's scorers with 14 points and Bonacum collected 13 while Ford chipped in 12 on the day. The team shot a combined 29-59 (49%) in the loss. Ford dished out four assists, Aminu pulled down six rebounds, and
Cory Soanes grabbed three steals.
The Roadrunners will host Rutgers Camden when they return to action on Wednesday, February 8th for a 7:30pm tip-off in Mahwah.
