Glassboro, NJ: The #8 Ramapo College men's basketball team wrapped up regular season play with a 90-71 NJAC road win over Rowan University. The Roadrunners improve to 23-2 overall and 16-2 in the NJAC while the Profs fall to 16-9 overall, 11-7 in the conference.
The Roadrunners earn the NJAC Regular Season Crown and #1 seed in the upcoming
NJAC Men's Basketball Tournament. Ramapo also earns a first-round bye into the semifinals which will be played at the Bradley Center on Tuesday, February 22nd at 7pm. Ramapo will take on the winner of #4 Rowan vs. #5 Montclair State. A full tournament bracket will be posted later tonight.
Sultan Aminu and
Thomas Bonacum each recorded a double-double in tonight's win. Aminu posted 20 points and 14 rebounds while Bonacum tallied 20 points and 11 rebounds.
Josh Ford and
Christopher Moseley each recorded 12 points while
Nick Stanek contributed with 11 points of his own and six rebounds. Ramapo shot 43% (33-76) fro the field, 53% (8-15) from the three-point line and 69% (16-23) from the free throw line. The Roadrunners recorded 13 points off of turnovers and 25 second chance points.
Ford opened the game with a made basket to put the Roadrunners on the board. Rowan followed with a made basket of their own before Bonacum hit back-to-back shots for a 6-2 lead. The Profs sunk back-to-back three-pointers and a made free throw for a mini 7-0 run and a three point lead, 9-6, before Ford nailed a three-pointer of his own off a dish from
James Long to tie the game at nine. Rowan was up three before Ramapo went on a 5-0 run to take a 16-14 edge before Rowan's Nick DePersia scored on a layup to tie the game at 16 with under 14 minutes to play. Bonacum tallied a three-pointer for the Roadrunners as they took the lead for good 19-16. That started a 12-4 run which was capped off by a layup from Aminu for a 28-20 lead with under 12 minutes left to play. Rowan would cut the lead to 28-25 with a five point run before Ramapo went on an 8-0 run which included back-to-back three-pointers from
Cory Soanes and
Nick Stanek and for their first double digit lead of the game 36-25. DePersia converted on an and-one play making a layup and free throw as the lead was cut to five. Ford put the Roadrunners back up by 12, 47-35 with 4:08 remaining in the half. Rowan outscored Ramapo down the stretch 10-3 closing the gap at halftime with the Roadrunners only up 50-45.
In the second half, Ramapo used a 6-0 start to stretch the lead back to 11. With under twelve minutes left in the game and Ramapo in the lead 69-58, Rowan used an 8-0 run to cut the lead to five, 69-64. The Roadrunners went on a 6-0 run of their own as Aminu capped off the run with a layup for an 11 point lead, 75-64 with under nine minutes to play. Ramapo ended the game on a 15-7 run as they came away with the 19 point road victory.
