Christopher Moseley led the #7 ranked Ramapo College men's basketball team to a 68-63 victory tonight over the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers Newark in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up. The Roadrunners improve to 20-1 overall and 13-1 in conference play. Rutgers Newark falls to 6-15 overall and 5-9 in the NJAC.
Moseley finished the night with 19 points shooting 7-8 from the field and a perfect 4-4 from behind the charity stripe while
Patrick Peterson and
Thomas Bonacum collected 13 and 12 points respectively in the win. The team hit a combined 23-50 (46%) and caused 20 Rutgers Newark turnovers.
Sultan Aminu pulled down six rebounds, Peterson dished out three assists and Peterson,
Lavrone Green and
Nick Stanek each grabbed two steals on the night.
After falling behind 4-12 to start the game, Peterson hit a jumper to spark an 8-0 Ramapo run to tie the game at 12. A three-point goal from Green would cap the run and bring the game to its first tie. Over the next 11 minutes the teams traded baskets until with 1:04 to go, Bonacum hit a layup followed by two free throws to go ahead, 30-26. Mark Thomas scored the last basket of the half to finish at the buzzer with Ramapo leading, 30-28. Moseley led Ramapo with seven points and Peterson chipped in six as the team went 11-24 (46%). Rutgers Newark was led by Chase Barneys with seven points and Kenya Brown with six. The team hit a combined 13-28 (46%) from the field. The Roadrunners would force 14 Scarlet Raider turnovers in the first 20 minutes of play.
In the first two-plus minutes of the second half, Aminu nailed a two-point goal to put Ramapo on top by five, 36-31 but a long shot from Ty-Lynn Johnson at 14:59 would close the spread to just two points, 36-38. After back and forth baskets over the next six minutes, Bonacum would sink a basket sparking Ramapo to take control working to an eight-point lead at 3:59 with two free throws from Moseley. Rutgers Newark responded with back-to-back three point goals from Barneys to come within two, 58-60 with 2:47 to play and in the final minutes, with Ramapo on top, 66-60, Barneys would cut the lead in half with his fifth long shot of the game and just 41 seconds left on the clock. Moseley collected two free throws and the buzzer would sound giving Ramapo the 68-63 victory. Moseley led Ramapo in the half with 12 points and Bonacum and Peterson each chipped in seven. Ramapo hit 12-26 (46%) in the half. Barneys collected 16 second half points as the team went 13-23 (57%).
Barneys finished the night with 23 points including five three point goals while Landon Gaines collected 12 points on the night. The team hit 26-51 (51%) in the loss. Nadir Alston pulled down ten rebounds and Barneys grabbed three steals in the loss.
The Roadrunners take on TCNJ when they return to action on Saturday, February 4th on the road at 3pm.
