Westfield, MA: The Worcester Polytechnic Institute defeated the Ramapo College women's basketball team 68-45 in the consolation game of the Westfield State Holiday Tournament. WPI improves to 8-3 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 4-8 on the year.
WPI had three players score in double figures in the game including a double-double from Ama Biney who tallied 13 points and 11 rebounds while Madison Beck led the team with 15 points. Brittney Lambert posted 12 points including four three-pointers while Stasha Greenalch dished out a game high 12 assists and contributed with eight points. The team shot 42% (27-63) from the field, 40% (11-27) from the three-point line and 75% (3-4) from the free throw line. WPI also out rebounded the Roadrunners 45-25 in the game.
For the Roadrunners,
Jenna Harsh led the team in scoring with 11 points while she added five rebounds and one blocked shot.
Alie Wickersheim finished with nine points and three rebounds and one blocked shot while
Jina Crawford added seven points and three assists.
Bridgette Buckalew put in five points and grabbed five rebounds while
Tia Solomon and
Jessica Repasy both added four points. The team shot 37% (19-51) from the field, 26% (4-15) from the three-point line and 33% (3-9) from the free throw line. Ramapo led with 24 points in the paint while WPI tallied 18 for the game.
WPI got on the board first in the game with a layup from Stasha Greenalch before Crawford put in a basket for the Roadrunners 2-2. A three-pointer from Harsh put Ramapo up one 5-4 before back-to-back shots from WPI put them in the lead 8-5.
Amber Sagan nailed a three-pointer for Ramapo tying the game 8-8 with fewer than six minutes to go in the first quarter. WPI then went on a 14-0 run to take a 22-8 lead with 1:12 on the clock; the run was capped off with a three-pointer from Alana Keating. Harsh stopped the run with a three of her own off a dish from Sagan as WPI went into the second quarter up 22-11.
Crawford would hit a jumper early in the second quarter to cut the lead to nine but WPI would lead the quarter up ten or more with their biggest lead coming with 23 seconds left on a made basket from Maddie Black 34-21. In the third quarter a three-pointer fro Buckalew cut the lead to 13 before a three-pointer from Greenalch started an 8-0 run putting WPI in the lead 48-27 with under five minutes to play. Ramapo ended the quarter on an 8-3 run of their own cutting the lead to 51-35 heading into the final quarter. In the fourth WPI held Ramapo to just ten points as they added 17 to their tally for a 68-45 non-conference victory.
The Roadrunners return to action at home on Wednesday, January 3rd when they host Rutgers-Camden University at 5:30pm.
