Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team dropped a tough New Jersey Athletic Conference overtime match-up tonight to the Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers Camden, 76-68 at home. With the loss the Roadrunners fall to 4-9 overall and 1-5 in conference play, while the Scarlet Raptors improve to 7-5 overall and 4-2 in the NJAC.
Cara Racobaldo led Rutgers Camden hitting 7-15 from the field and 3-4 from the charity stripe as she collected a team high 18 points in the win. Gabby Greene and Michelle Obasi each recorded 15 points as the team hit a combined 25-61 (41%) from the floor. Racobaldo pulled down eight rebounds and led with six assists while also grabbing three steals on the night.
The lead changed five times and the game was tied on nine occasions but it would be the Scarlet Raptors who would outlast Ramapo earning the eight point, 76-68 overtime victory. The Roadrunners jumped out to a 6-0 start and led the entire first quarter until Greene nailed down a three-pointer with 39 seconds on the clock to go ahead, 18-16.
Tia Solomon responded with a long shot of her own to tie the game at the buzzer, 18-all. The teams would trade baskets in the second until a 9-0 Ramapo run, sparked by a three from
Jenna Harsh and capped with a basket from Solomon would put Ramapo on top, 31-25. Rutgers Camden chipped away to come within two, 29-31 at the halftime buzzer. Ramapo shot 13-32 (41%) in the first half as the Scarlet Raptors went 9-20 (45%).
The Roadrunners would lead the entire third and fourth quarters, and by as many as eight on two occasions in the third, until their lead was cut in half (49-52) with a three-pointer from Jordan Harbaugh with 5:36 to play in the game. Harsh would get Ramapo back to a five-point lead with two good free throws at 4:56 (54-49), but back-to-back baskets from Racobaldo and Ariel Robinson would put Rutgers Camden within one, 53-54. Obasi tied the game at 2:16 with an and-one play and again with just five ticks on the clock to end regulation tied at 59. Rutgers Camden controlled the offensive play in the extra period working to an eight-point advantage at the final buzzer with four straight free throws from Racobaldo. Rutgers Camden shot 11-34 (32%) in the second half and 5-7 (41%) in the overtime period as Ramapo hit 11-26 (42%) in the second and 4-12 (33%) in OT.
Harsh led Ramapo with a monster double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds as she shot 9-21 from the floor, 5-16 from behind the arc, and 2-2 from the line.
Jina Crawford posted 15 points and Solomon collected 11 as the team went 28-70 (40%) in the loss. Crawford grabbed nine rebounds and
Bridgette Buckalew and
Stephanie Johnson each dished out four assists. Solomon grabbed three steals.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, January 6
th when they travel to TCNJ for a 1pm tip-off.
