WESTFIELD STATE BATTLES BACK TO DEFEAT RAMAPO 76-63

Westfield, MA:  The Ramapo College women's basketball team fell to host Westfield State College this afternoon 76-63 at the Westfield State Holiday Tournament. The Roadrunners fall to 4-7 overall and will play in the consolation game tomorrow at 1pm. The Owls improve to 6-5 overall and will play in the Championship game at 3pm.
 
The Roadrunners went into the locker room up 38-36 before the Owls would outscore Ramapo in the final two periods to earn a non-conference victory. The Owls held the Roadrunners to just ten points in the fourth period while they added 24 points to their total. Westfield State forced 45 Ramapo turnovers and converted them to 30 points. The Owls attempted 50 three-pointers in the game and made 13, shooting 26% from beyond the three-point line. The team also shot 23% (23-98) from the floor and 68% (17-25) from the free throw line. Four Owls scored in double figures in the game including a game-high 18 points from Lucy Barrett. Melissa Gray and Kierra McCarthy added 11 points while Alyssa Darling contributed with ten. Rebecca Sapouchkey led the team with 11 rebounds while she added nine points, two blocks and two steals.
 
Ramapo out rebounded the Owls 65-49 and forced 11 turnovers. The team shot 36% (22-60) from the field, 18% (3-16) from the three-point line and 80% (16-20) from the free throw line. The Roadrunners were led by Tia Solomon who posted her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds while she added one block and one steal. Jina Crawford also tallied 11 points while Alie Wickersheim added eight points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Stephanie Johnson added eight rebounds, four points and two steals.
