Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team hosted the Roadrunner Tip-Off Tournament which commenced tonight at the Bradley Center in Mahwah with the first pairing ending with Suffolk on top, 90-45 over St. Joseph's College (0-2). In the second match-up it would be Ramapo who would advance to the championship game tomorrow as they downed the Cardinals of York College, 57-47.
With the win the Roadrunners improve to 2-0 on the year and York falls to 0-2. Ramapo advances to play Suffolk (1-1) in the championship game tomorrow at 2pm. St. Joe's and York will play a consolation match-up at noon.
Jessica Repasy led the Roadrunners in the win as she collected 12 points on the night.
Alie Wickersheim nailed down ten points and
Jina Crawford and
Tia Solomon contributed eight and seven points respectively. The team hit a combined 22-62 (36%) and
Hannah Cambel and
Bridgette Buckalew each dished out four assists. Solomon pulled down 13 rebounds in the win.
The Roadrunners would jump out to an 8-0 lead to start the game as Repasy nailed down a jumper with 4:12 on the clock. Ramapo finished the quarter with a 15-6 lead with Wickersheim sinking a team leading seven points in the first quarter. The team hit 5-17 (29%). For York, Karen Bellamy, Evanda Redwood and Claudia Rhoden each would score two points as the team went 2-14 (14%). In the second, the Roadrunners would work to a 33-14 lead at the halftime buzzer as Crawford collected a team leading five points with the team combining for 6-16 (38%). Solomon pulled down five rebounds and Crawford grabbed three. The Roadrunners finished the half shooting 11-33 (33%). Bellamy led the Cardinals with five points in the quarter. The team hit 3-16 (19%) in the second quarter and 5-30 (17%) in the half.
Ramapo would out score York, 15-5 in the third to go ahead 48-19 behind six points from
Jenna Harsh. The team shot 7-21 (33%) in the quarter with Repasy adding four points of her own. Solomon and Cambel each pulled down four rebounds. York was held to just one field goal shooting 1-14 (7%) from the floor. Bellamy led with three points and Dayana Jacome and Rhoden each grabbed three rebounds. In the final quarter of the game the Cardinals made a push and took control of the offense out scoring Ramapo 28-9 but it wasn't enough as the Roadrunners held on to take the game by ten, 57-47.
Amber Sagan led the Roadrunners with three points in the quarter as the team hit 4-8 (50%). NyKeisha Paul led York in the final quarter with ten points. Bellamy added six and the team hit 10-24 (42%).
Bellamy led the Cardinals with 16 points and Rhoden contributed ten. Bellamy led with two assists and Diamond Jackson led the team with eight rebounds. The team shot a combined 16-68 (24%) in the loss.
In the first game of the night the Rams of Suffolk defeated the Bears of St. Joseph's College, 90-45 behind 16 points from Marissa Gudauskas. The team shot 35-54 (65%) in the win with Gabriella DeComo collecting 15 points and Jenni-Rose DiCecco and Shannon Smith each sinking ten. DiCecco dished out nine assists and Alexandra Nagri added six as Jordan Hipwell and DeComo each pulled down eight rebounds.
Suffolk jumped out to a 26-15 lead after the first quarter after the team hit a combined 9-14 (64%) behind Mya Blazejowski. St. Joseph's was led by Kelly O'Donnell with six points. The two teams traded baskets over the first four plus minutes but the Rams would pull away with a three from Blazekowski at 5:32 working to their 11 points advantage at the buzzer. In the second, the Rams would dominate the offensive end of the court working to a 55-28 lead at the halftime buzzer. Gudauskas finished the quarter with a team leading nine points for Suffolk as the team hit 12-15 (80%). Victoria Porcasi sank six points for the Bears as the team finished the quarter shooting 4-13 (31%).
The Rams would outscore the Bears, 20-12 in the third quarter hitting 7-15 (47%) from the floor behind seven points from DeComo. The Rams worked to their biggest lead of the quarter (35, 73-38) with 1:45 remaining as DeComo capitalized on an and-one play and again at the buzzer (75-40) with two good free throws also from DeComo. Porcasi would again lead the Bears collecting seven points in the third as the team hit 21%, 3-14. The fourth went much of the same as the Rams worked to a 90-45 final.
Porcasi finished the night with 22 points as the team hit 14-53 (26%). O'Donnell collected seven points and pulled down eight rebounds in the win.
