RAMAPO TOPS RUTGERS NEWARK IN KEY NJAC WIN 3-1

Mawhah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's volleyball team defeated Rutgers Newark University tonight at the Bradley Center 3-1 (25-13, 25-18, 23-25, 25-15). The Roadrunners improve to 15-6 overall, 5-1 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raiders now stand at 6-11 overall, 1-5 in the conference.

Ramapo was led by Larysa Iwaskiw who posted 31 kills in the match while she tallied 19 digs. Judy Errichetti hit .444 in the as she tallied 15 kills on 27 attempts and only three errors. Amanda Rose posted four kills, three digs and one block while Sara Correa led the team with 27 assists. Kate Shirley dished out 24 of her own and Karina Almeda led the team on defense with 29 digs. Sarah Mulligan and Kristina Semple posted 15 and 13 digs respectively.

The Roadrunners pulled away in game one for a 25-13 win. Ramapo hit .412 in the game with 16 kills on 34 attempts and only two errors. Iwaskiw led the Roadrunners with eight kills while Errichetti recorded six of her own. On defense Almeda led the team with five digs while Semple posted four in the game. The Scarlet Raiders opened up game two on a 5-0 run before a service error from Rutgers Newark gave the Roadrunners their first point of the game. Ramapo came back with a run of their own as Sarah Mulligan tied the game with an ace while the Scarlet Raiders recorded back to back attack errors putting Ramapo in the lead 7-5. Back to Back kills from Samantha Main and Amanda Rose extended the lead 9-5 before the Scarlet Raiders got a kill from Morgan Schweitzer 9-6. Ramapo began to pull away and earned their 20th point of the match on a kill from Rose to take a 20-15 lead. Ramapo led 22-15, Iwaskiw, Morgan Ridgway and Ashley Pichardo put down the Roadrunners final three kills to take the match 25-18.

In game three, the Scarlet Raiders jumped out to an 12-8 lead before Ramapo came within one 11-12 with back to back kills from Iwaskiw. Another kill form Iwaskiw paired with a error from Rutgers Newark put the Roadrunners within one point of tying the game 13-14 before Samantha Kemmerer recorded a kill for a 15-13 lead. The Scarlet Raiders extended their lead 23-17 before Ramapo came back with four straight points to come within one 22-23 on back to back aces from Shirkey. Following a Scarlet Raider timeout, Comfort Akinbo recorded a kill to force match point 24-22. Ramapo countered with a kill from Errchetti 24-23 before a service error from Ramapo allowed the Scarlet Raiders to take game three 25-23.

Ramapo controlled game four as they began to pull away with an 8-5 lead following a kill from Errichetti. The Roadrunners extended their lead 21-9 on a kill from Iwaskiw before Newark went on a mini 5-0 run 21-14. Iwaskiw put down a kill 22-14 before an error from each team put Ramapo in the lead 23-15. Errichetti and Iwaskiw then tallied the final two kills of the game respectively coming away with the 25-15 win.
Rutgers Newark were led by Schweitzer and Luken who each tallied ten kills in the match. Karly Gregoire dished out a team high 21 assists while Sue Riley posted a team high 21 digs on defense. Gregorie also posted three blocks for the Scarlet Raiders and 11 digs.
 
The Roadrunners return to action when they travel to Rowan University on Tuesday, October 17th for a NJAC conference match at 7pm. The Roadrunners defeated the Profs during the 2016 season 3-0 (26-24, 25-27, 25-15).
