Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's soccer team earned a 1-0 blanking of rival Rutgers-Newark University today at the Athletic Center. The Roadrunners improve to 4-8 overall, 2-4 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raiders fall to 8-7 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

The first half ended in a 0-0 score while the Scarlet Raiders almost went up 1-0 in the 31st minute. Jennifer Coronel Cruz was able to get a foot on a loose ball off a corner kick inside the box and Ramapo goalie
Elizabeth Harvell came up big with the save to hold Rutgers-Newark scoreless. Each team collected five shots in the first half while the Scarlet Raiders held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Gabrielle Gentilucci scored her third goal of the season when a ball from
Keri Ferrara was played over the top and Gentilucci ran it down, beat the keeper and put the Roadrunners on the board 1-0 in the 79th minute (78:15). Harvell came up big once again as she stopped a shot from Juliana Ceballos just over one minute later and the Roadrunner defense held onto the 1-0 victory.

Rutgers Newark held a 13-8 advantage in shots in the game while each team collected five shots on goal. The Scarlet Raiders added four more corners collecting eight in the game to the Roadrunners one. Harvell posted five saves in the shutout win while the Roadrunner defense held their backline and drew Rutgers Newark offside 14 times during the game. Diana Carvalho posted four saves for the Scarlet Raiders.

Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, October 14th when they host NJAC rival New Jersey City University. The Roadrunners will honor their senior class in a pre-game ceremony. Ramapo defeated NJCU during the 2016 season on the road, 2-1.
