Camden, NJ: The Rutgers-Camden women's basketball team defeated Ramapo College 48-35 in NJAC conference action. The Scarlet Raptors improve to 9-3 overall, 3-3 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners even their overall record to 6-6 and 1-5 in the conference.
The Scarlet Raptors led for the majority of the first quarter before Ramapo came back on an 11-1 run to close the quarter up 13-8. The run was capped off by a three-pointer from
Shelby Ringer.
Kellie Lane scored the first basket of the second quarter putting Ramapo up 15-8 before Rutgers-Camden went on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 15 all. The two teams traded baskets down the stretch as the Scarlet Raptors recorded the final two points of the quarter to tie the game 19-19 heading into halftime.
The Scarlet Raptors would control the third and fourth quarters pulling away late in the third with a 9-1 run to take a 33-24 lead into the fourth. Rutgers-Camden took one of their biggest leads in the game with 8:41 left to play as Jovan Childers put the team up 38-24 on a made layup. Ramapo would go on a mini 7-0 run cutting the lead to nine with 4:31 left to play on a jumper from Lane. Rutgers-Camden closed out the game on an 8-2 run holding onto the 13-point victory.
Ringer led the Roadrunners with eight points while
Bintou Berete added seven of her own.
Tia Solomon posted a team high 11 rebounds, three blocks and five points while
Jina Crawford added six points, four rebounds, two steals and one block. Ramapo out rebounded the Scarlet Raptors 52-39 and forced 11 turnovers. The Roadrunners shot 19% (11-57) from the floor, 11% (2-18) from the three-point line and 55% (11-20) from the free throw line.
Rutgers-Camden had three players score in double figures in the game while Childers posted a team high 12 points. Michelle Obasi and Cara Racobaldo each collected ten points while Racobaldo posted a double-double with 12 rebounds. The team shot 31% (18-57) from the field, 33% (2-6) from the three-point line and 71% (10-14) from the free throw line.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, January 7th when they host NJAC rival The College of New Jersey at 1pm.
