Galloway, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team dropped a tough NJAC match-up on the road today as they fell to Stockton University, 40-57. With the loss, Ramapo falls to 7-11 overall and 2-9 in the conference. The Ospreys improve to 12-5 overall and 7-3 in conference play.
The Ospreys would lead the entire game taking their biggest lead of 20 with just over two minutes to play in the game as they shot 20-64 (31%) as a team behind 14 points from Sasha Williams and 13 points from Lea Mendolla. Taylor Christina contributed nine points and Najha Treadwell added seven, while Francesca Gervato and April Peterson each dished out three assists. Peterson pulled down a team high eight rebounds and Treadwell added seven. Mendolla collected five steals in the win.
With the game tied at eight, the Ospreys strung together an 11-point run, sparked with a free throw from Christina and capped with a free throw from Gervato. The run would put Stockton on top, 19-8 with 7:08 on the clock in the second quarter. The Ospreys finished out the half with a ten-point, 32-22 advantage behind ten points from Williams. The Ospreys hit 10-34 (29%) in the first two quarters of play. Ramapo was led by
Tia Solomon with nine points and
Jenna Harsh with six. The team shot 8-26 (31%) from the field.
In the third quarter Ramapo would string together a six-point run that was sparked and capped by
Kellie Lane to come within five, 28-33, but the Ospreys quickly responded with six points strung together to take back the double-digit lead with just over five to play in the third quarter. The closest the Roadrunners would come was within eight, 31-39 with a free throw from
Samantha Rinaldi before Stockton climbed to the 20-point advantage at the end of the game. Mendolla collected a team leading eight points in the half as her team went 10-30 (33%). Lane led the Roadrunners with seven points in the final two quarters. The Roadrunners went 6-23 (26%).
Ramapo was led by Solomon with 13 points and Harsh finished the night with eight, while Lane and Rinaldi each contributed seven. Ramapo finished hitting 14-49 (28%) from the field. Lane pulled down eight rebounds and Solomon collected seven, while Solomon also recorded three blocks.
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, January 25th when they host Montclair State at 5:30pm at the Bradley Center.
