WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO NEW PALTZ

Mahwah, NJ:  The New Paltz women's soccer team came away with their first win of the 2016 season with a 1-0 win over Ramapo College today at the Athletic Center. The Roadrunners now stand at 0-2-1 overall while the Hawks improve to 1-3 overall.

The game's lone goal came from Danielle Grossi, the first goal of the season as a team for New Paltz, in the 41st minute (40:37) of the game. Mikayla Pugliese slipped as pass to Grossi as she got away from the Roadrunner keeper and put the ball into the back of the net for a 1-0 score late in the first half.

The Roadrunner could not come up with the goal to tie the game while they had many opportunities. New Paltz held a slight 13-12 margin over Ramapo in shots while they posted 8-5 in shots on goal. Ramapo did play a man down for the final 60 minutes of the game seeing one of their players being sent off due to a red card. Ramapo collected two corner kicks to New Paltz's one while the Roadrunner defense caught the Hawks offside eight times.

"We need to play quicker, we have to do a better job of keeping possession. We did that in the second half unfortunately we didn't convert our chances. If we can build upon this second half and put it all together for our next game we will be in good shape," said Ramapo head coach Abby Shiffler.

Rampao's Elizabeth Harvell collected six saves in the game while Angela Ratka posted five saves for the Hawks.

The Roadrunners return to action on September 10th when they travel to Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ for a non-conference game at 1pm.
