Mahwah, NJ: The William Paterson University women's soccer team defeated Ramapo College today 6-2 in NJAC action. The Pioneers improve to 6-2-1 overall and earn their first win in conference play and now stand at 1-2 in the NJAC. The Roadrunners fall to 1-6-1 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
The Roadrunners got on the board first in the game when
Gabrielle Gentilucci scored in the 14th minute (13:45), her team leading fourth goal of the season to take a 1-0 lead. WPU tied the game in the 32nd minute (31:56) as Tori Woetzel put a header into the back of the net off a corner kick from Adrianna Oliveira. Darcy Perez put the Pioneers up 2-1 (42:38) just before the half when she scored off a free kick from 30-yards out.
In the second half,
Skyler Rybacki tied the game off a header for the Roadrunners 2-2 in the 57th minute as
Liliann Vizcaino assisted on the goal. From there, WPU took control and scored four unanswered goals. Olieveria tallied her first goal of the season and the eventual game-winning goal (61:15) to take a 3-2 lead. Marisa Adelman scored back-to-back goals in the 68th (67:14) and 72nd (71:20) minutes of the game extending their lead 5-2. Carla LaRocca posted her fourth goal of the season in the 85th minute (84:53) to put WPU up 6-2.
The Pioneers out shot the Roadrunners 23-8 in the game while they posted an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Elizabeth Harvell collected 11 saves in the game for Ramapo while Angela Sandelli posted one for the WPU.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday when they travel to Rutgers-Camden University for a NJAC game starting at 1pm.
