WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL GOES 1-1 ON OPENING DAY

New York, NY: The Ramapo College women's volleyball team opened the 2016 season today at the NYU Labor Day Invitational. The tournament was held at Hunter College where the Roadrunners defeated Hunter, 3-2 (19-25, 25-15, 25-17, 18-25, 15-7) in the first match of the day before falling short against Emerson College, 1-3 (12-25, 17-25, 25-18, 23-25).

In their opening match, the Roadrunners were led by Larysa Iwaskiw who tallied 23 kills, two aces and 18 digs. Judy Errichette contributed with eight kills and one block while Emily Guzman added seven kills, two aces and a team high three blocks. Kate Shirkey led the team with three aces of her own while she posted 19 assists and Rachel Selmore dished out a team high 22 assists. Kristen Behrens helped lead the team on defense with 16 digs while Karina Almeda collected 12 of her own.  Ramapo hit .227 in the match with 50 kills on 141 attempts.

In a tough loss to Emerson, Iwaskiw collected 26 of the team's 52 kills as the Roadrunners went 52-141 with 25 errors hitting .191.  Guzman and Errichette recorded nine kills a piece and Shirkey dished out a team leading 21 assists.  Selmore contributed 20 assists of her own in the loss.  Iwaskiw and Behrens led the team's defensive game with 16 and 14 digs respectively. 

The Roadrunners pick up action again tomorrow as they take on Keene State and NYU in day two of the NYU Labor Day Invitational at 10:30am and 4:30pm respectively.
