THREE GOALS FROM CAMPBELL LIFT RAMAPO OVER MSU

Montclair, NJ:  With three goals, sophomore Ryan Campbell led the Ramapo College men's soccer team to a 4-3 overtime victory tonight over the Red Hawks of Montclair State University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference road match-up.  With the win the Roadrunners grab their sixth straight win of the season to remain undefeated on the year.  Ramapo now stands at 6-0 overall and takes home the New Jersey Athletic Conference season opening win (1-0).  Montclair suffers their second loss of the year to fall to 6-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Campbell started the scoring for the Roadrunners, gave the team the lead (2-1) and then eventually tallied the game winner on the night as he led the Roadrunners to their one goal overtime win over MSU.  This was the first time the Roadrunners have defeated the Red Hawks since the 2010 season.

After the Red Hawks took a 1-0 lead capitalizing on a penalty kick just one tic under four minutes into the game, Campbell collected his sixth goal of the season off a corner kick from Jorge Castro to knot the game at 1-1 at the 19:32 minute mark.  Campbell would strike again in the 32nd minute with a ball laid off from Justin Olaya to put the Roadrunners up, 2-1, his seventh of the year.

At the halftime buzzer, Ramapo held that 2-1 lead as MSU held an advantage in shots at 9-4 and Ramapo leading in corners at 2-1.  Ryan Sprague made three saves in goal for the Roadrunners while Mike Saalfrank made one for the Red Hawks.

To start the second half, MSU's Mike Taranto, off an assist from Lucas Terci, put away just his first goal of the season which would knot the game at two goals a piece, but Ramapo wasn't done as Jorge Castro ripped one past Saalfrank to again take a lead over MSU, 3-2.  The assist on the goal went to Mike McGlynn.  A second penalty kick for the Red Hawks knotted the game once again before the regulation buzzer sounded forcing overtime play.

In the second half, MSU led with 12 shots to Ramapo's six as Sprague made an additional three saves in goal.  Saalfrank went untested in the period.

When it came to overtime play, the two teams were tied with one shot each until about halfway through the half in a golden goal overtime period when Campbell, off another assist from Olaya, would put the game away for Ramapo earning the 4-3 victory on the road.

The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, September 21st when they travel to SUNY Old Westbury for a 4pm kick-off in a non-conference soccer match-up.
