Galloway, NJ: Sophomore
Ryan Campbell fired in three goals today in the Ramapo College men's soccer team's 4-1 win over non-conference rival FDU-Florham on the final day of the Stockton Seashore Classic. Campbell pushed the Roadrunners past the Devils helping his team to their fourth straight win to start the 2016 season.
Looking at statistics it was an evenly played game (FDU-Florham 14, Ramapo 13) but Ramapo's
Ryan Sprague came up with six big saves to assist in the team's non-conference win. FDU-Florham had a commanding edge in corner's (8-3), but it didn't matter as it was Ramapo who found the back of the net to take the game.
The Devils scored their lone goal at 18:09 off a long 25-yard shot to go ahead 1-0, but Campbell recorded his first of the day with under ten to play in the half to knot the game at 1-1. Campbell's goal came as he capitalized on an awarded penalty kick.
At the half, Ramapo was behind 8-3 in shots with Sprague being tested on five occasions with the one goal against. Frank Maggiore recorded no saves and one goal against in the first 45 minutes of play, Ramapo's three shots off target.
The second half was a different story as the Roadrunners out shot the Devils 10-6, and put away three goals to take the game. Campbell would score the game winner at 49:46 when he beat the defense from ten yards out, before sophomore
Edward Franzoni scored his first of the season collecting his own rebound and hitting the back of the net.
With 33 minutes left in the game, Campbell added insurance when the defense gave the ball up to his feet at midfield giving way for a breakaway and giving Ramapo the 4-1 lead and eventually the three goal victory.
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, September 14th when they host Arcadia University at 4pm at the Athletic Center turf.
