Scranton, PA: The Ramapo College field hockey team suffered their first loss of the 2016 season today at the hands of Marywood University in a non-conference match-up on the road. With the loss the Lady Roadrunners now stand at 2-1overall while Marywood improves to 3-0.
The Roadrunners played a strong game matching Marywood in goals scored which lead to a tied game after 66 plus minutes of play. Marywood would get on the board first at 13:26 with a goal from Amelia Waibel, a goal that came unassisted after the ball was stolen from the defender and ripped into the cage off a Ramapo defender. But the Lady Roadrunners responded with a goal just under six minutes later when
Nicole Healy, off an assist from
Melissa Choka, ripped a shot into the Marywood's cage. The goal came after a penalty corner was awarded and the Lady Roadrunners capitalized off the top of the circle.
"I'm so proud of how the team responded to come back and get a goal right after being scored on," said Head Coach
Jane Koeniges.
The score would hold until the halftime buzzer with Marywood leading in shots, 9-3.
Emily Wisneski made six saves in the first half and Marywood's Kerri Mountz made one.
Koeniges added, "Marywood executed at the end of the game and that was the difference between this hard fought game."
In the final 35 minutes of play, Marywood outshot the Roadrunners 7-0, and in the final four minutes of play, Marywood's Gabbie Bower and Waibel beat Wisneski to push ahead 3-1 taking the game in a non-conference match-up.
The game ended with Marywood out shooting Ramapo, 16-3 and Wisneski finished the day with nine total saves.
