Wayne, NJ: The #3/7 Ramapo College baseball team bounced back in their home away series with William Paterson to earn an 8-1 victory over the Pioneers today on the road. With the win in which Ramapo scattered 11 hits and crossed eight runs, the Roadrunners improve to 28-8-1 overall on the year and 10-6 in conference play. William Paterson falls to .500 at 18-18 overall and 7-9 in the conference.
Bobby Shannon went 2-4 with one run scored and two RBI while
Ryan Rinsky hit 2-4 with one run and one RBI to lead the Roadrunners to their tenth conference win of the season.
Austin Unglaub posted two hits on five at bats. He scored two runs of his own while
Rob DeAngelis,
Matt Chemis,
Joe Venturino, and
Scott Paulus each added a run in the win.
From the mound,
Casey Jervis pitched seven innings for Ramapo earning the win to improve to 2-0 on the year. He struck out six and walked just one while letting up four hits and one run.
Greg Westhelle came in to finish out the game. He pitched the final two innings striking out two and letting up just one hit.
Ramapo exploded on offense to start the game collecting six runs in just the first two innings.
Brandon Martinez ripped a single to right field with two outs in the 1
st which brought in Venturino and Chemis who walked and reached on an error respectively earlier in the inning to get on base, giving Ramapo a two run advantage.
In the 2
nd, it would be Shannon driving in the team's third run and Rinsky, DeAngelis and Martinez each bringing in one to take a commanding 6-0 lead after one and a half innings. Shannon drove in Unglaub who singled to lead off the inning, Rinsky drove in Shannon who got on base with a single, DeAngelis hit a single of his own to bring home Rinsky, and Martinez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to cross DeAngelis.
The Pioneers would finally get a run across in the bottom of the 4
th inning but Ramapo added more tallies in the 5
th to go up 8-1, a score which held until the final out.
Steve Duda lasted just 1.2 innings and gets the loss as he falls to 0-1 on the year. He struck out one and walked two as he let up six hits and six runs, four earned.
Ramapo held the Pioneers to just five hits, two each from Victor Sanchez and KC Abel and one from Mike Knauf. Sanchez scored the lone run for WPU and Abel drove him in.
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow in their final regular season games of the year when they host Rowan University at 11:30am in a double header NJAC match-up.
