#5 BASEBALL SWEEPS #15 TCNJ

Ewing, NJ:  #5 Ramapo College baseball team swept a NJAC double header from rival #15 the College of New Jersey. The Roadrunners came back to defeat the Lions in game one 9-7 while Ramapo won game two 11-2. Ramapo improves to 27-6-1 overall, 9-5 in the NJAC while the Lions fall to 26-6 overall, 10-4 in the conference.
 
Game 1: The Roadrunners scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Matt Chemis singled and Joe Venturino walked before they both moved up one base on a wild pitch. Connor Walsh drove home Chemis with a sac fly before Scott Paulus doubled home Venturino and Brandon Martinez for a 3-0 lead.
 
TCNJ came back to take the lead in the bottom half of the inning. Patrick Anderson got the Lions on the board with a solo home run before Garen Turner hit a two-run home run to tie the game at three. CJ Gearhart drove home a run with a RBI single and Mike Follet drove home the fifth run of the inning for a 5-3 lead.
 
The Roadrunners and Lions each scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings respectively as TCNJ held a 6-4 advantage. Ramapo came back in the eighth inning with four runs on two hits. Venturino was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning before Walsh singled to center field. Martinez reached on a fielder's choice, as Venturino was able to score on the play. Scott Paulus walked before being lifted for pinch runner Evan Ochlan. Ochlan and Martinez moved up one base on a wild pitch before Unglaub drove home Martinez with a sac fly to center field to tie the game 6-6. Bobby Shannon came up big with a two-run home run over the left-centerfield wall to put the Roadrunners up 8-6. Ramapo added one more run in the ninth when Venturino doubled home Chemis 9-6. TCNJ scratched one run in the bottom half of the ninth 7-9 before Jerry D'Andrea closed out the game earning his eighth save of the season.
 
CJ Growney (2-0) earned the win for Ramapo in relief. He worked 7.2 innings striking out four, walking two and surrendering only two runs.
 
Game 2:  Ramapo pounded out 15 hits in the game to score 11 runs. The Roadrunners got all the runs they would need in the top of the first inning taking a quick 4-0 lead. Venturino drove home DeAngelis and Chemis before Martinez drove the second pitch he saw over the left-center field fence for his team leading fifth home run of the season. In the third inning, Martinez doubled home Venturino before Unglaub drove home Martinez with a single to left field for a 6-0 lead.
 
TCNJ added two runs in the third before Ramapo added three runs in the sixth and two runs in the seventh extending their lead 11-2. Ramapo starting pitcher Eli Garcia earned a no decision in the game working the first 4.1 innings. He struck out one, walked four and surrendered four hits. Jon Brignoni (4-0) earned the win in relief as he worked 3.2 innings, striking out three and walking none while only giving up one hit. Mike Campbell recorded the final four outs on the mound for Ramapo with two strikeouts, one walk and no hits allowed.
 
Venturino finished the game 4-5 with three runs scored and four RBI while DeAngelis also went 4-5 with two runs scored. Martinez was 2-4 with two runs scored and three RBI.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on April 25th when they travel to Western Connecticut State University for a non-conference game beginning at 3:30pm.
