Mahwah, NJ: The #3/4 Ramapo College baseball team swept NJAC rival New Jersey City University today at Jeff Maund Field, 6-5 in game one and 3-1 in game two. The Roadrunners now stand at 16-1-1 overall and 2-0 in the NJAC while the Gothic Knights fall to 12-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

In game one, Ramapo jumped out to a 3-0 lead the bottom of the third inning.
Jared Ensmenger led off with a single before
Bobby Shannon ripped a double to left-center field.
Rob DeAngelis was hit by a pitch to load the bases before NJCU picked off Ensmenger at third base for the first out of the inning.
Matt Chemis laced a single to right field plating Shannon before
Joe Venturino singled home DeAngelis for a 2-0 score.
Austin Unglaub then drew a bases loaded walk that allowed Chemis to cross home plate for a 3-0 lead.

NJCU came back with two runs in the fourth inning. CJ Pulcine walked before Dan Berardi doubled and J Reinecke drove them both home with a hard hit single to right field to come within one, 2-3. Ramapo added one run in the fifth when DeAngelis raced home on a sac fly to the second basemen off the bat of
Connor Walsh.

The Gothic Knights scored three runs on four this and one Ramapo error to take a 5-4 lead. Ramapo would come back to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 6-5 lead. Chemis and Venturino singled with two outs before Walsh walked and Unglaub drove a single into center field plating the eventual game winning runs. Ramapo held NJCU in the final two innings coming away with the one run win, 6-5.

Greg Westhelle (4-0) earns the win in relief for Ramapo, he worked the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, striking out two and scattering six hits.
Jerry D'Andrea earned his first of two saves on the day working the final two innings. He only surrendered one hit in his third save of the season. Chemis, Venturino and Ensmenger all had two hits in the game while Unglaub led the team with three RBI.

In game two, NJCU took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Pulcine came home on a bases loaded walk from Dimitri Rueger. The Roadrunners came back to tie the game in the third inning 1-1. Chemis walked and stole second before he moved to second when the throw from the NJCU catcher sailed into center field allowing Chemis to come around and score. Ramapo added two insurance runs in the sixth inning for a 3-1 lead. Venturino led off with a single before coming around on an infield throwing error to take a 2-1 lead. Walsh later came around to touch home plate on a wild pitch.

Neither team would score again in the game as Ramapo earned their 16th win of the season.
John Doherty (3-1) earned the with eight strikeouts in 7.2 innings of work. He scattered five hits while surrendering five walks. D'Andrea came in to earn his second save of the day with three strikeouts, one walk and no hits given up in 1.1 innings of work. Unglaub was the lone Roadrunner with two hits in the game while Venturino, Paulus and Rinsky each collected one hit.

Ramapo returns to action when they host Lehman College in a non-conference game at Jeff Maund Field at 3:30pm.
