Patchogue, NY: The #5 ranked Ramapo College baseball team earned a 5-3 victory today over St. Joe's in a non-conference match-up on the road. With the win the Roadrunners improve to 24-4-1 overall while St. Joe's falls to 14-10.
The Roadrunners were led today by
Joe Venturino and
Brandon Martinez who both belted two hits on four at bats collecting one run and one RBI and one RBI respectively.
Bobby Shannon went 1-3 with two runs scored and
Scott Paulus and
Ryan Rinsky each crossed home plate in the win.
Jon Brignoni pitched six innings and struck out three earning his third win of the year (3-0). He let up eight hits and all three runs but walked none on the day.
Greg Westhelle and
Jerry D'Andrea came in on relief in the final three innings. D'Andrea earned the save, his seventh of the season, as he struck out one and walked one in 1.1 innings of work.
Ramapo got on the scoreboard in the top of the 2nd inning when they crossed three runs, the first coming home on a bases loaded drawn walk from
Rob DeAngelis.
Matt Chemis also drew a bases loaded walk that crossed
Ryan Rinsky, before Shannon scored on a sac fly to center field from Venturino.
St. Joe's would close the gap in the bottom of the 3rd as they scored two, one each coming from Anthony Schuler and James Nakashian. Ramapo let up three hits and committed on error in the inning to let St. Joe's within one run, 2-3. The Roadrunners would add an additional run in the 4th inning which would turn out to be the game winner when Chemis flied out to center field, a ball deep enough to bring home Shannon from third base. Shannon singled to lead off the inning and stole second, before advancing to third on a fly out from DeAngelis.
A final run for St. Joe's would come in the 5th inning but it wasn't enough as Ramapo collected an additional run in the 7th to take home the 5-3 non-conference win.
Nick Girardi gets the loss for St. Joe's. He pitched 1.2 innings and let up no hits, three runs, and walked eight. He struck out two in his appearance. Joseph Calabrese led St. Joe's hitting 3-4 with one run scored and three RBI.
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow when they host CSI at Jeff Maund Field at the Athletic Center at 4pm.
