Joe Venturino set the new career hits record as the #5 Ramapo College baseball team defeated non-conference rival the College of Staten Island today 11-5. The Roadrunners improve to 25-4-2 overall while the Dolphins drop to 19-10 overall.
With one out in the bottom of the sixth inning Venturino laced an RBI single to right field plating pinch runner
Chris Eveigan to set the new career hits record at Ramapo College with his 225th hit. Venturino broke the previous record (224 hits) set by Christian Spurr during the 2013 season.
The Roadrunners pounded out 15 hits in the game scoring 11 runs. CSI scored one run in the top of the first before Ramapo came back in the second to tie the game with a sac fly from
Ryan Rinsky allowing
Scott Paulus to score to tie the game 1-1.
CSI took a 2-1 lead on an infield ground out in the third before Ramapo came back with three runs in the third inning.

Rob DeAngelis with the bases loaded with a hard hit single to center field before
Matt Chemis scored on an infield fielder's choice off the bat of
Austin Unglaub. Venturino scored the team's fourth run of the game on a wild pitch for a 4-2 lead. The Roadrunners added one run in the fourth inning as Venturino lifted a sac fly to left field plating Rinsky before they tacked on one more run in the sixth on Venturino's historic base hit driving home Eveigan for a 6-2 lead.
Ramapo added five runs on six hits in the seventh extending their lead 11-2. The inning was highlighted by DeAngelis' three-run home run over the right field fence. CSI added two more runs in the top of the eighth inning with an RBI ground out and a wild pitch. The Dolphins scored one more run in their final at bat in the ninth 5-11 before Ramapo got the final out of the inning to come away with their 25th win of the season.
Tyler Curto (2-0) earned the win on the mound for Ramapo working the first 7.2 innings with six strikeouts and five walks while he scattered three hits.
Robert Sartori worked the final 1.1 innings, striking out two. Venturino finished the game 3-4 with one run scored and three RBI while DeAngelis was 3-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. Chemis, Martinez and
Bobby Shannon all collected two hits each in the game.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow on the road at rival Kean University for a NJAC conference game set to begin at 3:30pm.
