ROADRUNNERS AND WILLIAM PATERSON SPLIT

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College softball team and the Pioneers of William Paterson split a double header New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up today at the Athletic Center where WPU took the first 3-0, and Ramapo grabbed the second, 6-5.

Game 1:  The Pioneers quickly got on the scoreboard in the top of the 1st inning when a squeeze play crossed Rachel Wasilak who got to first earlier in the inning with a lead off single. 

William Paterson tacked on one run in the 5th when Salina Pellios doubled to lead off and was driven home by Kelsey Wimmershoff.  They added an insurance run in the top of the 7th when Wasilak doubled to left field which crossed Wimmershoff.  Wimmershoff doubled to center field with one out to reach first base.

Ramapo was unable to score a run leaving six runners stranded on base posting their tenth loss of the season (15-10) overall and fourth (5-4) in conference play.

Katrina Buczkowski takes the loss after pitching the complete game.  She struck out two and walked one, letting up eight hits and three runs, all earned. 

Allison Podmajersky earns the win to improve to 15-2 on the year.  She pitched the complete game striking out two and walking three.  She held Ramapo to three hits earning the shut out.  Wasilak went 2-4 for the Pioneers.  She scored one run and drove in one run in the win.  Kaitlyn Poretti hit 2-3 and Pellios went 1-3 with one run scored.  Wimmershoff batted 2-3 scoring one and driving in one.

For Ramapo, Mikayla Melendez, Melissa Moreno and Ally Spellman each recorded a hit in the loss.

Game 2:  Behind a two-run bomb from Melanie Walling, the Roadrunners took game two from WPU to improve to 16-10 overall and 6-4 in NJAC play.  William Paterson falls to 22-6 and 6-4 in the NJAC after game two as Gabrielle Castelli took the loss pitching 4.2 innings.

Ramapo jumped ahead 3-0 in the bottom of the 3rd inning when a lead off single from Grace Brennan turned into the team's first run when she was crossed on a ground out from Christina BrizekDanielle Saporito drove in Spellman and Melendez later in the inning on a single to center field with two outs.

In the top of the 4th, the Pioneers connected six straight hits to start the inning which scored four runs giving the Pioneers a one-run advantage.  With the bases loaded, Kim Fryer doubled to center field bringing home Poretti, Lutas, and Wasilak.  Pellios later ripped a single of her own to drive in K. Fryer giving WPU the 4-3 lead.

The Roadrunners fought back and took back the lead, 6-4 in the bottom of the 5th when Walling ripped a two-run bomb with Melendez on base and Shannon Cox came home on a single from Brennan.

The Pioneers didn't let down tacking on a run in the 7th but it wasn't enough as Brizek shut down the offense to earn the 6-5 NJAC win.

Brizek pitched the complete game to improve to 9-3 on the year, while WPU's Castelli struck out four and walked two, letting up ten hits and all six of Ramapo's runs.

Melendez hit a perfect 3-3 with two runs scored and Spellman went 1-4 scoring one run of her own.  Walling hit 2-3 with one run and two RBI and Brennan posted two hits on three at bats with one run and one RBI.

K. Fryer led WPU hitting 2-4 with one run and four RBI while Wasilak, Eleni Lutas, and Poretti each scored a run.  Podmajersky scored a run and closed out the game for WPU in 1.1 innings.  She struck out one in the loss.

Ramapo returns to action on Tuesday, April 19th when they travel to Kean for a NJAC double header match-up at 3pm.
